    Default Protein shakes VS bars

    Morning everyone,

Had a quick question to anyone that has a sleeve for a while. Have you tried going to protein bars instead of shakes? Getting to the point that I just can't choke down another shake. Can't have full solids yet so shakes for now but really hate them.

    thanks
    mickie

I doubt that you will be able to take in a solid protein bar yet. At least not the whole thing. The down side to the bars is that the protein is in the entire bar, so u have to eat the whole thing. I am almost 3 months out and there is no way I could eat a whole protein bar in one sitting( I guess u could spread it out over the entire day, but id just stay with the shake)

After 2 weeks prior and 2 weeks post, i couldn't do any more shakes. I'm 16months out and still have trouble doing shakes. Protein bars go down fairly easy for me and always have. Trick is take the protein amount and double it. If the TOTAL CARBS are equal or less than that, then it's worth while eating.

    example
protein 15, Total carbs 45 = BAD IDEA

protein 10, total carbs 18 = Better idea

Adkins makes some with just a few carbs over the protein amount, but just like shakes you'll have to find those that you can stand or like flavors. I've tried probably 60 flavors and brands. Find a local grocery or health food store that has them on sale and try a few different ones. The easiest one for me is the peanut butter bar by balance. Target has singles if nothing else to try different ones before buying boxes of them.

Why bother with the shakes....i had my sleeve 8 months ago, and have never had a protein shake!!
I get enough protein from my intake of food etc...
The only problem i've really had is my hair is thinning, and i suffer from a lot of wind and can't bring it up!!

Try other things, i did and i'm feeling great...good luck, and let me know how you get on!!!
    Take care, love Mandy x

Before surgey I loved shakes. Since surgery my tastes have changed. I cant stand them. Can only do pure protien or or atkins bars. And do take more than one serving to eat them. But they r good for keeping in my purse and brief case for when food I can eat is not available.

I use the liquid protein shots. They are kind of gross, but much easier to drink than the protein shakes.about 4 oz = 42-50 gms of protein. I wasn't getting enough protein and my weight loss was slow. Now using these, it is much more steady.

I have read that the protein shots are great for body builders, but not the best for WLS patients.

Our intestines are not altered... may not be the best, but it's working for me. For now.
