Question Protein Shakes -- Still drinking them?

OK, I know a lot of us are still on protein shakes.

My question is... as per MY surgeon's dietary plan, at week 7 ALL food restrictions are lifted (if I can keep it down and not feel sick, I can eat whatever I want), we're allowed to swallow whole pills again (thank god, sick of chewing disgusting multivitamins), AND all protein shakes stop at week 7.

Has anyone else had similar dietary plans to mine? And if your surgeon did say all protein shakes stop at week 7, did you continue to drink them anyway? Just looking at other people's experiences. Thanks!

(I need to clarify... I'm NOT forbidden to drink protein shakes after 7 weeks. I'm sorry for the poor wording in my original post -- lots of people who responded interpreted what I said as being told to never, ever have one again lol.

Per the guide made for patients by my surgeon's office, they just say that you no longer HAVE to take the protein supplements between every meal if you don't WANT to. I was just curious to see if others were given this option to stop protein shakes, and if they did, were they able to get all their protein from food .)
    Reason: For clarity.

Right now I'm only 5 days out from surgery, so I"m pretty much living on them. I really wish I could afford to buy the UNJURY protein powder in every flavor because that stuff is awesome, but I buy body fortress at the grocery store. I have to get imaginative sometimes with the shakes, like adding peanut butter and banana to the vanilla with some ice and then throw it thru the magic bullet. I will also use greek yogurt in them from time to time.

I quit drinking all protien shakes pretty much after 7 weeks. I can eat whatever I want. Does it agree with me not always. I still like soup and I prefer to eat a lite dinner salad when I go out to eat b/c somethings are just too heavy and I feel like CRAP if I eat a strong food. I still burp for hours if I eat too much of a wrong thing , it can be healthy , but as wrong goes it just doesn't agree with me.

I have cut out most spicy foods since Mexican was my favorite. My roscecea went a way and I have pale skin instead of really rosy skin b/c of omitting the high spices. lol.

    So yes,
I eat a full diet now and ditched the protien

I did the pb, bannana too! I loved it at the time it added variety Hang in there. Your doing great! I also think mixers make all the difference in the qaulity of your shakes. I used the immersion blender.

I had my surgery in July and I continue to drink 1 protein shake every morning for breakfast. My doctor did not tell me to stop drinking them after 7 weeks. I enjoy my protein shake in the morning - it's easy and kicks off my day. I am not sure why your doctor would tell you no more protein shakes.

They feel that once you are back on regular foods, you don't need them anymore. They didn't say I could never, ever have one again, they just say to stop having a protein supplement between every meal. I am quite sure they would be amenable to my having one for breakfast or here and there if I wanted; just no longer have to worry about fitting them in after 7 weeks if I don't want to.

I like my protein drink, sometimes it just is soothing to my stomach. My protein drink is: 1/3 banana, handful of frozen blueberries, 1/2 c milk, 1/2 scoop Unjury Vanilla, 1/2 scoop Unjury Chocolate, blend in the magic bullet. Mmmm!

My doctors dietician gave us 'protein goals' that we are suppose to meet everyday. If I don't get in my protein target, I drink a shake. My doctor has a strict diet up until 6 months, so I am still not eating a huge variety. I can't have bread or starches. I eat a lot of high fiber foods. Drs are all so different.

I have never ever had protein shakes, and apart from my hair thinning i'm alright.
The only thing i have, and always had are my medication...pain killers, vitiams, iron tabs and ones that help me with the wind.

I still can't eat a lot, but find soup and yohurts work well for me.
Hope all works out well for you, and if you need any advice i'm always here if you need someone.
Take care, good luck on your journey love Mandy x

An option mentioned to me by the nutritionalist is to mix the protein powder in pudding, jello or whatever if you have trouble making the protein goal with normal food. I bought some unflavored for that purpose.

I was never forbidden protein shakes after 7 weeks. You just have to make sure they are low calorie and low carb. I still love drinking mine as it helps me meet my protein goal every day.

I drink a protein shake every morning for breakfast... 1/2 scoop of UNJURY protein, 1/2 cup ice, 2 pks artificial sweetener, 1/2 cup silk milk, Chobani Greek yogurt put in my bullet... It just doesnt get any better than this. It tastes great!

If you can get all your protein in, you probably don't need the shakes... but they are always an option...

I got my sleeve in mid may. I still drink protein shakes in morning. It gives me a head start on my protein count for day. My dr and dietitian both have said drinking them still is fine. I am unable to "eat" all my protein without it. I get to full. I say drink it if u can't get your protein in by eating it.

My doctor asks I get at least 100 grams of protein a day. With out the shakes, I can't reach that goal. But... You have a alternative to the shake. They make protein in liquid form (isopure) that I have started taking. It goes down smooth.
