Default The REAL lowdown on Diet Coke

I'm eight weeks out and I just had my first post-op Diet Coke. My instructions say one a day is OK now. I put LOTS of ice in it, so cut down the carbonation. What do you have on your instructions? Has anyone had any problems with it? I know it's a mild diuretic, so I've made sure to get extra water today. Man did it taste good.

Carbonation is a big no no until at least a year out. Its a bad idea to re-introduce familiar "sliders" and trigger foods especially so early out Its how you set yourself up for regain imo. Ymmv. I wish you luck in navigating this journey

I have to admit, my doctor told me to say good bye forever to beer and soda - no more carbonation for me. The sleeve is still a work in progress, lots of studies are still being done. It's not regular high carb soda so the only issue is the carbonation. Who knows, they may find it wasn't really the issue many doctors feared it might be.

I was told no carbonation at all. I do miss my sodas, but not worth the possibility of stretching out the pouch with repeated carbonation.

I don't drink it and won't again. Diet or regular - doesn't matter - I know it was a contributor to me getting this fat and I won't allow it to control my journey ever again. I am also not drinking caffeine anymore and only herbal tea - no black or green tea or coffee for me thank you. I might consider decaf tea or coffee after a year out but its not something I am worried about right now. When I go out to eat I remind myself I cannot eat and drink at the same time so ask for a to go cup with water and lemon. I buy flavored waters like propel when I want something different.

I also heard the "give up soda forever." I do miss it, but not as bad as I used to. I allow myself a caffeinated drink once a day (usually like an unsweet iced tea), but the carbonation is the thing I am afraid of on the sodas. Makes sense that it would stretch your stomach.

I'm more worried about the sf sweeteners setting off my sugar cravings than anything else. There's some evidence our brains interpret sf sweeteners as 100s of times sweeter (as it should) and it just wants more.
I miss my mandarin orange seltzer, which was my "soda".
I was also told no soda ever again. The carbonation not only might stretch the sleeve, but it causes more acid to flow, so even more GERD....
If you are one of the lucky ones who can sip some, good for you......

Right, the carbonation is bad for your sleeve but the SF sweeteners and caffeine are bad for triggering cravings. Sowwy!

I was told no soda, beer or vaccine which I cut out before this.and just not having it I.dropped 10 lbs. I will not ever drink it again. Like the others said, its a trigger and a slippery slope. Your body doesn't need it. Good luck
