Default Was anyone else sent home with a JP drain?

Sugery was Wednesday November 2nd, and I was discharged Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5). I have the drain and it has been putting out 30-40 ml. I have nly been getting in about half the protein and half the fluids. I feel full all the time. I cant sip anymore. I feel like I am going to explode.
Could I feel this way because of the drain? I have no nausea or vomiting, and am tolerating everything.
I feel like I am not doing enough.

Nah, the drain has nothing to do with feeling full. I could barely drink anything the first couple of weeks. In the 1st week concentrate more on getting liquids than protein in. If you get one shake in over a full day, that's ok. I also never got the full liquids in till about week 4 or 5! Hang in there, it gets better!

I had a bad problem with the drain causing sharp pains in my shoulder and arm. I thought they were gas pains but the doctor had me meet him at the emergency room and as soon as he pulled it the pains were gone. He said it was rubbing on my diaphragm. Go figure. But, it didnt make me feel full. If you still have a drain in.. you are still just out from surgery and you are going to feel full very fast for a LONG time. I still feel full after several bites and i am 4 months out.

I am sorry that your having such problems. Did they say how long your going to have the drain?
We can reverse years of damage to our bodies by deciding to raise our standards for ourselves, then living differently. Old wounds heal, injuries repair, and the whole system improves with just a few changes in what we put into our bodies and how we move them.

Feeling full? Welcome to the small tummy club. After the first month it gets easier. Concentrate on liquids and it gets easier.

1st week CLEAR liquids, 2nd & 3rd week full liquids including protein shakes & soups, 4th week soft foods & after that 'normal' diet as tolerated. Those were the instructions I left with. Your suture line is healing for the first 7-14 days post op and can't handle more than clear liquids at first. Things get better as your internal swelling goes down! I was 4 weeks post-op yesterday and each week following this gets better & better.
