Could you guys give me some examples of what you eat in a day. I'm so sick of eating the same stuff. I need some ideas!!! Thank you!!!
I had my surgery July 26th 2011 and I eat whatever I want..just not much of it. Tonight for example I had a piece of steak almost the size of a deck of cards. I also had about a tablespoon of baked beans and a tablespoon of potato salad. That was it for dinner. I have eaten a half slice of pizza, saved the other half slice for another meal. I once ordered chick parm from my favorite italian place and it lasted 3 dinners. I can eat half of a sandwich. I usually give the other half away to my boyfriend or boss. For breakfast I usually eat something small and leftover from the day before. Mexican casserole, homemade pea soup, baked chicken. I work as a nanny so whatever I cook for the family I work for at dinner I eat for breakfast the next day when I get to work. Sometimes I get Flame Broiler chicken and veggies and eat it for a couple of days for dinner. I dont order rice with it though. I havent had any problems eating anything so far. Hope this helps a little. Great weight loss by the way!
Can you tell us what you have been eating that you are sick of? I personally dont care for variety, but havent found enough things I like to get a routine I want to stick with...
How about chili? That can be loaded with protein, and you can make it taste exactly like you prefer (spicy, mild, more meat, more beans, throw in tomatos etc). Just be mindful of the carbs... add cheese for a little more protein (watch the total fat).
Same idea, but french onion soup is pretty good in protein.. Applebees I think has a bowl for about $3 if you just want something you can eat out every now and then. It might be a little high in salt, but once in a while is good. They have their recipe online too if you want to try making yourself. I also found a frozen kind - 4 frozen bowls you just boil in their bag or microwave.
For meat, and since I dont cook , I have been buying the tysons grilled and ready chicken fajita strips or steak strips etc (Tyson: Refrigerator). THey are in the refrigerated section and meant to put into salads I think. MIcrowave 30 seconds, and you get about 20g protein (per their serving)! There are 2 servings per bag, but it makes 3-4 servings for me. Sometimes I add cheese or dip in a little BBQ sauce.
For snacks, I finally found some protein chips and things I like.. .and a few I didnt like much but since I ordered a box of twelve and was determined to finish them, I found I liked better after I got used to them ... Kay's naturals "better balance" parmesan protein chips (1.5 oz bag has 15g protein and 20g carbs... It makes 2 servings for me most of the time), white cheddar cheese kruncheeze (13g protein in 1.5 oz and 15g carbs) - these are not as good to me as the others but still tolerable, cinnamon or honey flavored protein cookie bites (1 oz has 15g protein with 22 carbs) - they are kind of like puffy cereal, protein pretzel sticks cinnamon toast flavored (1.2 oz has 12g protein and 15g carbs) - I dont plan to order these again because they arent very good but since I still have 11 bags to go its possible I will end up liking them after all . I have been ordering these all online at amazon - I use the "subscribe & save" to get 15% off (i set it for every six months in case I forget but you can go in and cancel anytime or postpone the dates or skip one or anything - i do it for the discount and free shipping). They sometimes have a coupon code too for another 15% off. I have been getting a box of 12 of any of them for $9-$12. You might be able to buy single bags at a health food store or something to try them first... or go in with a friend and split an box to see who likes what etc.
Smoothie King is a good change for me - I only make it there about once a month, get a gladiator smoothie with pineapple or strawberries in it (45g protein and 1 carb plus the fruit). I also have bought a tub of the powder for it but it never tastes as good as when they make it And they will add a "caffiene charge" to it if you want a little boost for the day!
For drinks, I am not having as much luck... I alternate between straight water and water with the crystal light stuff in it. Neither tastes good to me. I was a huge caffeine addict, and for the most part have "broken" that and dont need it for normal life. Unfortunately my life is not always normal... Right now work is kicking my butt and I cant afford to sleep real hours, so I need the caffeine or I will be in big trouble... I have recently found that the energy drinks at the gas station or walmart are ok - Monster Rehab tea+lemonade+energy, Rockstar version in grape/orange/lemonade ... they are sugar free (10-20 cal per can) and non-carbonated (be careful - you have to really look for those ones). They are a little watery tasting, but definitely tolerable for me. Dont intend to make them a habit though (at $2-3 each, no way!) but they are getting me through right now...
Good luck! Hope people share more - i am always on the look out for something to add in. I read chocolatecoveredkatie.com a lot - vegan recipes for deserts etc that she tells how to adapt for low/no sugar or fat etc... I drool over the pics a lot, but havent actually tried them yet!
I usually make an eggbake (go see theworldaccordingtoeggface.com) to eat for breakfast and swap it around with a greek yogurt. Lunch I take leftovers from supper - chili, baked fish, noodleless lasagna, pork tenderloin, green beans, squash, eggplant - TRY eat healthy. I also like to take string cheese, divide it in a few pieces and wrap ham or turkey around it for a 'sandwich'. You might also check pouch party for some recipe ideas. You're doing great - keep up the good work!
Breakfast starts with a protein shake, I find I'm a little more restricted or tight first thing in the morning so I go with a liquid first. I've tried a few kinds, I enjoy the EAS lite milk chocolate and a powder whey chocolate from GNC. Once I found one I liked I stick with it most days. I usually follow that up in a couple of hours with either a Chobani Greek yogurt ( I LOVE strawberry or pineapple) or if I'm working from home I fry an egg or 2 with cheese.
Lunch is Wendy's chili if I'm on the road or a McDonalds bacon & cheese snack wrap burger (or a 1/4 pounder with cheese no bun). If I'm home its cold cuts - ham or turkey rolled with swiss cheese, or egg salad or tuna fish.
Dinner is either whatever the family is eating, a Jenni-O frozen turkey burger (awesome!), or some kind of turkey, chicken breast/pork tenderloin with honey mustard or similar flavoring. I keep meaning to start buying fish.....
I do also eat whatever else grabs me, obviously within reason and I don't feel like I miss out on much at all.
