fiber causing gas?

I amin my pre-op phase, I have surgery in 9 days. I have been drinking about 2 protein drinks a day sometimes 3 each containing 40grams of protein. I started adding clear fiber to my shakes to help with constipation. But seems like I have a gurgeling intestines and then I expell (fart) a lot. Not having any gas ppains in my stomach at all. Is this normal? I have never taken protien or fiber before now so not sure if its normal. But I'm not constipated either!

fiber makes u fart, lol. try senna s 2 pills a day will give u the same effect less the farts

I had gas from the protein shakes. I also had very thin runny stools too.

From what I've read, the body can't really process more than 25 gm protein at one time, so I don't know if you're paying more for 40 gm, but it might not be efficient. And it might be too much, thus adding to constipation issues.

Also, careful about constipation. You don't want to strain immediately after surgery. So whether it's added fiber (which may or may not sit well after surgery) or a medical softener, well... just be advised. Actually... you might want to ask someone about the fiber post-op. Fiber expands in the stomach, and you don't want to stress/put pressure on/stretch immediately after surgery. For myself, the post-op pureed/liquid diet exited me the same way it came in -- in liquid, semi-solid form.

And gas may an issue post-op, regardless of what you eat. It could also be caused by the type of protein (whey v. soy v. casein v. egg white, etc.)
