    Default How much cream soup??

I just started week two and get to do full liquids now. I was very excited about the soup! However, I haven't seen anything telling me how much soup I should eat. I was kind of surprised when I was easily able to eat 1/2 cup. I have seen all these things about 1/4 cup of different foods, so I realy thought I would feel over full if I had a whole 1/2 cup--but I didn't at all. I actually felt like I could eat more, but I didn't.

Is my pouch too big? I just don't know what to expect in this stage...

Your stomach can handle more liquid than solid. The 2 ounce thing is for solid food. I used to have a 1/2 cup too.

Good question...I'm 2 weeks tomorrow and this 2nd week adding in the cream soups I was wondering the same thing. It seems as though there's a perfect amount where one spoonful too many = heartburn though. I more week of liquids to figure this out and then on to mushy foods. I'm wondering how many spoonsful of mushy are going to be sufficient. I guess for a while we'll have to supplement protein shakes just to get enough with our regular soups & foods...

No, 1/2 c is not too much. My dr. told me that my stomach was the size of a medium sized banana. That is all the room you have. When you can tolerate it later, eat a banana that size and you'll see real fast that you are full after you eat it. When you are in the liquid, pureed food stage, you will probably have to put something in there every couple of hours. Are you doing protein shakes? Those are great for many things post op. I bought the Body Fortress chocolate at Walmart for $17 for a big can. Put a scoop in the blender with 1/2 cup ice and 3/4 c of fat free milk. Delicious and you get about 30 grams of protein out of it. Protein helps you feel full and aids healing. Sip this over about 45 min. time. It also counts toward your liquids for the day. It's the best!

I felt the same way. My doctor said eat until you feel full or uncomfortable, which was easily a 1/2 cup of soup. I am now 5 weeks post op and on to soft foods, also down 35 lbs so I must be doing it right!

1/2 cup in liquids is 4 ounces. That's perfect.

I heard that warm liquid is easy to digest than solid food. I would think warm is better than cold. I am really wondering how its all going to play out for me. I will find out in about 30 some odd days.

HI the fact sheets i have read have all recommended around 200ml / 8fl oz / 1 cup of soup per meal but it seems to vary widely - if unsure i find it best to ring my dietician as they understand my circumstances and can advise based on the Surgeons recommendations.

1/2 cup is just fine! Don't worry too much about amounts you can eat at this point. Just listen to your body and it will tell you when to stop.
If you feel you can have 1/4 cup more, go for it. Really, it's soup. Another 1/4 cup is not going to destroy your weight loss. Do bear in mind that a meal should have a set start and stop time, meaning you don't want to be drinking soup for an hour or more and then skip your other liquids. Times vary but I use 30 min for a meal period, then wait 20 or 30 min and drink liquids. Sometimes it's a matter of being thirsty, not hungry.
