What does your pre-op diet consist of?

I was not put on a pre-op diet, only told to not gain any weight. From what I've read here, being on a pre-op diet really helps with recovery, so I would like to do one. How many weeks before surgery did you start your diet? I was thinking of starting 2 weeks before. The first week cut out carbs and sugar, second week do a liquid diet. What do you think?

What does a liquid diet consist of? Can you have soup?

Please tell me what diet you have done/are doing, and what you eat on that diet. Thanks!

Hi there, I am in New Zealand so things will be a bit different to what other places do.
My pre-op was 3 weeks of optifast x 3 per day plus one cup of low starch veg.
2 liters of water per day plus diet drinks and diet jelly.
I lost 22 lbs on this three week diet and according to the surgeon I had a lovely fat free liver which makes surgery and recovery very easy

Mine was two weeks ON SLIM FAST. You drink 5 to 6 cans of slim fast a day and that is it well and water......it really sucks i was going crazy but surgery was a total success!!!!! Good luck to you!!!!

I have a 2week pre-op diet.
Protien shakes, cream soups , liquids, lots of water and a sensible dinner like chicken and veggies. No carbs.
Then the last 3 days clear liquids only. Nothing the day of , of course.

2 weeks here & I am on day 7. All liquid, sugar free jello, sugar free popcicles, broth, tea, coffee, no carbs, no sugar

I am on day 1 of my clear liquids....total of three days.....is prune juice considered a clear liquid??

I'm on my last day of my pre-op diet. Surgery tomorrow! I did the Bariatric Advantage shakes. In addition to that I could have SF Jello, SF popcicles and any time of sugar free drink except for sodas. I think getting a head start with a pre-op diet is an excellent idea even if your surgeon doesn't require it. Will allow you to get your head in the right place before surgery. Good luck.

so for the the first week on a preop diet you need to just ex out all breads and pastas, but you can still have solid foods? Does anybody have any sample menus of their days preop? lol i am a lil confused about this. Also, a week before its liquids only but that includes soup? How did you get through this? I bet that i will have horrible cravings to chew, you know what I mean?
