I love the clothing exchange at a local support group for WLS. I feel good passing on the "too big" for me now and getting the "just right" for now in exchange. It is very nice to go "shopping" with the full intent of bringing them back within a month or so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carla, I don't think there is anything wrong with you grieving over your clothes which, really, represents the old you. Let your generosity be a time for you to acknowledge the good things about your former self while freeing up space - in your closet and in your mind - to welcome the new.

I am gladly giving all my clothes away. I don't intend to hold on to the "old me." She has worn out her welcome and it's time for her to leave!! LOL

I've still got a couple of my fat jumpers as i call them. I wear them when i'm feeling down or that lovely time of the month that women suffer from. I've gone through my wardrobe so many times since my op..(last March) Now i limit myself to what clothes i buy because I know that they will be too big in a month or so time. Because i only wear them a few times my friend has suggested selling them on e.bay for me so i can make some more money to buy some more clothes. It is hard though to let go of the bigger clothes, i guess its our past and one we don't want to repeat. Keep a couple of items, just shove them to the back of your wardrobe (closet) and when you have a low day and think your not losing anything then get them out and see how far you have come. My hubby brought me a pair of high heeled shoes, haven't been able to wear any for 16yrs but i can now, can't walk in them propley but i look good in them.. It makes me smile knowing how good just that makes me feel.

When I have had my surgery and lost a lot of weight I still plan to keep at least an outfit I wear a lot at the moment. Just to see how much I lost at the end

I see that a lot of you are giving away your 'fat clothes'. That's wonderful if you can afford to do that. I was laid off in Jan., so selling my clothes on ebay has been a big help. I have about 40 items listed and sold 9 items this weekend for a total of over $200. I also had 2 people contact me who want to make 'bulk' deal on clothing. About the time I am ready to give up on all these clothes and give them to Good Will, I sell a bunch. The stuff that sells fast on Ebay are branded clothing, such as Lane Bryant, Macy's, JC Penney. If any of you need help getting started on ebay, let me know - be glad to help you.

just this past week I went through all my clothes and had a hard time trying to decide should I get rid of these or keep them, oh wait a min! I was told I won't get that fat again, or will I? I have some very pretty outfits that I hate to part with, but putting them on, they hang down to my knees now! So I now have three piles of clothes, one pile to give away, another pile that I will donate and the last pile to give to a consignment shop so I can purchase some clothes that do fit! I spent a lot of money on clothes and its sad that I won't ever wear them again. but I have to keep the positive attitude that I will now be able to get clothes that are smaller, and prettier. I still seem to gravitate twards the 2 and 3x clothes when Im in the store. How said that our brain hasn't caught up with our body!

Today I went shopping for clearance rack specials and get two tops. It is SUCH a mind game as I took about 10 shirts in, and most hung on me. WHY can't we see ourselves as who we are now? I am mostly in XL shirts but depending on the cut I might need 1X (they are cut fuller) but yet I am drawn to the bigger items.

AND today first purchase of panties in the REGULAR sizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy dance.

Save a few favorites for the seamstress to take in, and pass the others on to larger women so they can feel good about themselves! Then go buy yourself some hot new clothes!

I went through all my closets, I have over 10 boxes, of clothing! I can't believe how much money I have spent on fat clothes. just to hid my weight. I have so many nice things but I want things that fit now, I am in a large, and size 10 pants, all my pants are xl. 16-20. some still have price tags on them, I am renting a storage unit in the morning and put it in the yard sale ads. hope to sell most of them, I marked them so cheap. 2.00, 4.00 and 5.00 for the new things. I don't have money to buy new things and hope that I can sell some of these clothes os I can buy new things. I know a lot of the clothes are worth more than 2.00 but they are taking up so much space, I just hope I don't gain the weight back.

I also havent had my sleeve yet, but have lost small amount of weight and I did go through and gave away some clothes that were way too big. I also have some tops and dresses that were brought on special and do find them hard to part with, am going to see if I can get these tailor altered. Like Joy and Grace I also have Holy Clothing items, will try to alter some of these dresses/tops/pants but will definetely need to order more when I am down to my goal weight. (Love the Andrea pants and Fiona dress) When down to my goal weight cant wait to go shopping.

Wanted to mention again to think of folks like Home - Dress for Success
They help lower income folks dress for interviews and give them some appropriate office clothes. When folks are trying to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and choosing between food and heat, an interview suit isn't on the list of things to buy. Plus sized office clothes are hard to find in a thrift shop.
I've sent them my suits and such and will continue to do so.
When I was a single mom and got my college degree at age 40 these kind folks helped me with outfits to get me started at work in an office
after years on a loading dock.
I'm trying to pay it forward.
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.
