    Default Water Intake

I was just wondering if getting the sleeve procedure affects how much liquid you can consume at
one time? When I exercise, I need to drink a LOT of water.

Was also wondering about drinking with eating? If I'm thirsty at mealtime, is it better to drink before I eat?
Or can you sip while eating?

    TIA!

My dr's instructions specifically say No drinking 15 minutes before or 30 minutes after a meal. If you drink with a meal, you can get sick, stretch your stomach, or slide too much food through.

I was also told no chugging... just sipping all day long.

I'm about 2 months out and still sipping liquid. I used to drink about a gallon of water a day literally before and now I finally am getting over 32 ounces. That was one of the biggest changes that I wasn't expecting. Also, not drinking during eating is a huge challenge. Sometimes my mouth just gets dry while eating and I feel the need to drink so I will take just a tiny sip to refreshen it. Good luck!

I'm only a week out so I drink what I can. They pump you full of fluids during your hospital stay so you don't get dehydrated. yesterday was the first day I hit 65 ounces. Today I'm already at 35 so I'm sure I'll get more today. I'm sure, in time it will be more. But I don't think that's too bad for after a week. My Dr told me on Tuesday there is no rush as long as I was getting over 30 it will keep increasing. I do feel thirsty/dry mouth, but I sip sip sip.

I have read that the "no water with meals" recommendation/suggestion is left over from Gastric By-Pass procedure guidelines. I don't gulp my water like I used to, and I just take a few sips here and there when necessary. It has not hurt me in any way; I just had my 8mo. labs and follow-up and labs were perfect.

I sip water throughout my workouts, in fact, I highly recommend you stay hydrated during particularly intense workouts. The only thing is that you will have to learn to "sip" or you will find it hurts like the dickens when you gulp it down in the first months post-op.

I can drink about a half 16oz bottle in no time, any more than that then I get the horrible gut pains.

It is different for everyone with water intake. You are going to have to do what feels right for you. I am just finally getting to a point where I can get my water in and I will be 12 weeks tomorrow. You will have to see what works for you. I make sure to have water with me at all times so I can sip constantly. I never feel dehydrated, though.
