Hello, I had my surgery Aug 8, I was very hungry starting a few days later. Since then I am very hungry at meal times, anyone else experience hunger like this? Was told no hunger for a year or more.
Dave
I had surgery over three weeks ago and I feel like I am hungry all the time. I lost 20 lbs the first two weeks because of the liquid diet but since I started soft foods it has slowed considerably because I feel like I am eating small meals all day long. The only days I lose are when I exercise. I even have trouble getting in my fluids because I eat too many meals. I've been wondering if anyone else was this hungry too. Thanks for posting.
Sometimes I feel hunger, but I don't really think it is hunger. It is still your mind trying to tell you that you are hungry..but really you are not. I usually get a drink of something, or have a small snack of sugar free fat free pudding (with protein mixed in). Just an ounce or two of that and I am all good again!!
Sometimes I go too long between meals and will feel hungry. The hunger I feel post-surgery is more easily controlled. Like yesterday, I was busy running errands around town and had forgotten to pack a WLS friendly snack. I started to feel hungry and realized that it had been 5 hours since lunch. I was able to control the hunger by drinking water until I could get home and eat a protein-filled dinner. I would never have done that before surgery (I would have given in and eaten something bad for me instead of waiting for a better option). I find I'm much more 'picky' (for lack of a better word) about what I eat now than I was before my surgery. I really try to make sure everything I eat has a good ratio of protein and calories.
I get hungry when I am empty. It's what I would call appropriate hunger because before I'd be hungry even if I'd just eaten. I also feel empty sometimes instead and can chase it away with liquids. The only way I can tell the difference is if I haven't eaten in 3 hrs and I feel weak. It's weird.

I get hungry when I exercise a lot. The other day though I was hungry all day. I don't really think it was hunger as much as it was behavioral. You have to change alot of attitudes about food and old habits sometimes return but your not hungry. I guess its adapting the changes of behavior to your sleeve. I was fine and wasn't starving but all day it was very strange because I just "wanted" to eat. It went away the next day.
Hi! I was wondering what you meant by I don't enjoy much anymore. And can you tell me about your experience with Dr. Almanza? I am scheduled with him on Monday, October 10th. Thank you! Carolyn

Hang in there Linda, it may get better. I understand what you are saying. You are looking at this little bowl of bland mushy stuff and, well, why bother? Perhaps try tastes of different foods. Something may eventually hit ok on your tongue.
Just the past few days I've started to actually enjoy some tastes again. Mostly they are only intense spicy flavors, like salsa or bbq sauce on chicken.
Sweet stuff leaves me cold (which, I suppose is a very good thing, but hard to get used to).... I am getting to where I can't get even fruit chobani down anymore as it tastes sicky sweet. I had a square of chocolate because I just had to know and ended up spitting it out. Spitting out CHOCOLATE! OMG... Learning a whole new way to eat....

I don't really get hungry but if i haven't eaten for a few hours then i do feel 'something', i'm just not sure if it's hunger or not.
And something i've found is that when i do feel the 'something' i can really fancy a certain food but the minute i get it it isn't as nice as i thought it would be and so i don't eat much of it. Very wierd.
