Default Doctor worried about possible bleeding.

Hello all, when I had my last child, it was by cesarean. That night I had a Hematoma where I had internal bleeding inside my stomach, while I was sleeping. I woke up to a lot of pain, and my stomach was dark purple bruised looking. The doctors weren't to concerned about it. I just stayed in the hospital an extra day to make sure the bleeding had stopped. The doctors said my body would just absorb that blood.

I had a meeting with the assistant to the surgeon. I told him about what happened. Now I'm doing all these special blood tests to see If I'm at a high risk for bleeding. The lab is taking forever to get the results. Once I get the results then I have to see a Hematologist. The assistant surgeon said there might be chance that the surgeon will not do the surgery. I am scheduled to have the Surgery on Dec 7th. And my final appt. with the surgeon is Nov 7th. I am hoping I can get in to see the Hematologist this week. Hopefully.

I am so nervous. I really wanted to do this surgery and if he rejects me, I think I'll be devastated.

Does anyone else have a history of bleeding?

I had severe bleeding when giving birth as well, but it wasn't a c-section. I lost over 2 litres of blood and I had blood transfusions. I mentioned this to my surgeon at the consultation, but he didn't seem very much concerned about it. Let me know you get on with the blood tests, good luck!

I also had a history of bleeding right after giving birth and right before I was scheduled for surgery. I started bleeding out of my back passage. I had to delay the surgery until I could find out what was going on. I was very disappointed but went through the all the tests and eventually got a clean bill of health. I am now over 2 years out and still think it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I had no trouble with the surgery or recovery. The hardest part was waiting for all the test results. Good luck and keep me posted.

I know this sounds frightening but it is all precautionary. Bleeding post delivery is often not at all related to other post operative bleeding. Cesarean delivery is a totally different surgery, with a whole batch of hormonal changes. The reasons for your hematoma development are many and singling out one cause difficult. however your docs were not concerned at that time and all went well .... ;-) The quickest and easiest potential reasons to rule out are bleeding factors done by blood tests. Yeah they may take a few days but they are not invasive and generally not terribly expensive. Seeing a hematologist may seem overkill but it is for your safety. Don't panic..... this is just to make sure you have no hidden problems. Most likely all is well and your hematoma was "just one of those things that can happen" and no indication of a bleeding problem.

Hello everyone, thank you for all your replies and your prayers. Just wanted to update you.. I had the appointment with the surgeon on Nov. 7th. I still have not received all my blood test results. I think they screwed up at the labs. Its been almost a month and the complicated tests have not came back yet. However, during my meeting with my surgeon he was not worried at all. The factor V test came back positive for clotting. But he said I was a great candidate and he was ready to move forward. He said there was no need to see the hemotologist (which was advised at he consultation).

The receptionist originally scheduled my surgery for Dec. 7th. But the surgeon said he had an opening on Nov 16th if I wanted it. Which I jumped to. So basically my surgery is now in 2 days.

I am a bit scared. I've been so excited and impatient. Now I'm starting to freak out. Also I haven't did the pre-op diet because I figured I still had a month. I will start the liquid diets now for the 2 days before surgery.

I am a vet tech, and here's my take on excessive bleeding during child birth.... A female's hormones during menstruation, pregnancy, and parturition play a significant role in blood clotting. We won't spay a dog in heat because she will bleed like crazy and it's often difficult to stop. C-sections are a bloody mess. But the same dogs have no excessive bleeding during other surgeries when their hormones aren't surging. When we test dogs for genetic bleeding disorders before breeding, we specifically can't do it while they are in heat because it will effect the clotting tests. My work partner bled so much during her son's delivery (natural, not C section) that she needed a transfusion. But she had no bleeding issues whatsoever during her knee surgery, two shoulder surgeries, or hysterectomy.

I know it's frustrating and stressful waiting on lab results, but chances are they won't find anything wrong. Good luck.

    Thanks for the update.

You can do this...Deep breathing helps.

It's normal to feel anxious/nervous/scared/excited all at the same time. This is a life changing decision...for the better.

Shannoll, hang in there..... anxiety is to be expected for any surgery let alone one that you weren't totally prepared for (accelerated surgical date). It will all work out fine. Good Luck!
