Default Having trouble with required liquids

Okay, this is my third day post op. I'm feeling pretty good. My dietician started me on full liquids today which made me happy. I felt like I was doing good until I realized that I couldn't count the full liquids as clear liquids. Now I'm very far behind for the day! I honestly don't know how I will be able to drink 42-48 oz of clear liquids on top of 40-60 grams of protein from protein shakes, cream soups, and milk. I am constantly sipping, and feel like I'll be sick if I push any more fluids. Any tips on how to get the fluids in without feeling sick?

You are no longer on clear liquids, you are on full liquids. And the shakes DO count towards your total fluid for the day.

Good call on the shakes counting. I was fighting to get everything in and fearful I was stretching my stomach.

In her brochure she says that I don't count full liquids as clear liquids and that I need to have at least 48 oz of clear liquids. I'm really full all the time with all of this drinking. My hubby agrees and says that the shakes should count. I've gotten all my protein in and taken my vitamins, so I feel pretty good.

so they are suggesting that if I drink 100oz of protein shakes, milk, cream soups, etc, that I will get dehydrated because I'm not getting any fluids? Whoever came up with your postop plan must have played hooky the day they taught common sense. If it's liquid it counts, period. Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't be trying to get as much fluids as you possibly can, in whatever form you can. The 64oz rule is bare minimum. For optimum weight loss, you should shoot for 1/2 your body weight in ounces. But In the very beginning that will be nearly impossible. It actually sounds like you are doing really well so far.

i use less liquid in my protein shakes to make the volume smaller. A bit thicker liquid but them i don;t feel as though i am struggling as much to get other liquids in. I also used nectar fruit flavored protein drinks so it feels like im drinking juice but im actually getting in my protein. little tricks to get one thru.
