Default I week post op weight???? I'm worried

Hi fellow sleevers. I'm one week post op and have only lost 5 lbs. I'm scared.
I am still on the liquids diet. I eat ( shakes, jello, creamy soups, actually more soup and jello than shakes) and I never really get full but I want to make sure I'm getting all my protein in.
I know you can't "drink" to much but should I lay off of the soups and jello maybe?
I'm really worried that I made a mistake.

I'm two weeks post-op and totally get your fear. If you're able, go for nice long slow walks...sip your water, water, water. For me, jello, soups etc is just to supplement my water intake to hydrate. From what you wrote, it appears that those other items are your main source of hydration. I'm cheering you on, you'll be fine and start feeling better weekly. Good luck and keep us posted....Al

I'm still PreOp but if it helps to hear another voice... I suffer from "check-the-scale-every-day-itis". If you're doing everything the Doc told you, I wouldn't worry much. Just stick with it and results will show.

Looking forward to hearing from you after a month!

I was like you right after surgery. I actually even gained weight at the hospital because of fluid retention!
Because we failed so many diets we are scared that this time it will be same, but it won't!
just follow your guidelines and you will be fine.
5 pounds for one week is a lot, later in the process it will be between 2 pounds and 1/2 pound per week. Just remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint. I don't know what your surgeon told you, but mine was very clear about reaching my goal at one year or even later..... we lose a lot during the first weeks, then it decrease. It's OK! our bodies need time to adjust...
Try to relax, I know it's hard but stress is bad for weight loss. Hide your scale and breeze! Be ready for the stalls, I had one for three weeks, and I even gained weight at some point (around 8 pounds) because of a medication. I was upset, but it all went away after two weeks with a bonus.

It took me a while to feel better about the scale, but the key it to hide your scale and only use it once a week or once a month if you can. Each time it will be a good surprise. Take care

You lost 5 lbs in a week! Wow! That is awesome!! It does go slow in the beginning. I had only lost 15 lbs for the first month, and nearly freaked. lol. Everyone on here was amazingly supportive, and I want to assure you that your body is just trying to adjust to all the changes. You just had major surgery, and pumped full of fluids. It will pass. One caution-you may see others who had surgery around the same time as you did, and they may pass you. Some significantly, but you have to harden yourself and not compare your own progress. One girl who had her surgery very close to me flew past me and was posting her goal pictures less than a year later. I was so jealous, but you know what? I learned what foods my body needs and what to eat/not eat when I need to lose again. I stay on top of my weight every single day, and eat healthy. I never see her on here anymore, but do see others who have regained, and my heart goes out to them. That can happen to anyone, esp if they have had some emotional trauma. I am just finishing up a divorce myself, and it actually went the other way for me. Usually I want to eat when I am stressed, but this time I had to make myself eat and drink. Anyway, try not to panic, and try to put it all in perspective. This is for the rest of your life. You don't have to do everything this second, and you will be better off if you listen to your body. You cannot do that if you are in a state of worry. Wishing you all the best, Melissa

Don't worry to much. (I'm one to talk lol). I'm 7 days out from surgery and just now back down to pre surgery weight of 207. I wasn't allowed any shakes for the first week only clear liquids. Just started shakes today.

Some context and perspective are needed. You are a relative 'lightweight' in the world of weight loss surgery since you started this process at less than 200 pounds. Generally, many lightweights do not lose as rapidly as much heavier people, so the fact that you lost 5 pounds in a week is amazing.

Now, this is the time to develop realistic expectations. If you continue to lose at 5 pounds per week (in other words, 20 pounds monthly), you will reach your goal weight in approximately 3 months. Although a few 'lighter' people have gotten to their goals in less than 6 months, this result is not typical. Instead, the rate of weight loss is often slower for a lightweight and it could take up to a year, possibly longer, to get to goal.

My advice is to continue doing what you are doing. Get 80+ ounces of protein, 60+ ounces of fluids, and your supplements in daily. Add some moderate exercise as soon as your surgeon allows you. And last but not least, stay off the scale. The weight will come off, but frequent weigh-ins may drive you absolutely bonkers. Pay more attention to the non-scale victories such as your loose-fitting clothing.

Realistic expectations are crucial. For your starting weight, I would not be surprised if your rate of loss slowed to 1 to 2 pounds per week. However, you will attain your goal weight. Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone. I'll try to relax. Just so afraid of failing at this like my dieting attempts in the past. I made a deal with myself to only weigh weekly. I am so grateful for this forum and support. Thank you so much

I lost absolutely nothing the first 11 days postop (that's the first time I weighed). I didn't step on the scale again till 6 weeks out and was down 17 pounds. Woohoo! I also gained 3 pounds at one point that took a month to come back off (but no, I didn't panic, I actually started eating and drinking more to break the stall). And eventually I lost 100 pounds and have kept it off for two years. THATS the part that matters, not how fast I lost that 100 pounds.

Just get in all your protein and fluids, don't starve yourself by cutting calories cause that will screw up your metabolism, stay off the scale and remember you have your sleeve for the rest of your life. You don't need to rush anything.
