Anyone else have to do the Arixtra injections for the first seven days home? Its a blood thinner that I am going to have to give myself shots of once daily after going home.
Yeah, those are crazy expensive. I only had to have 2 shots of it, and both were in the hospital. I only stayed one night in the hospital, so I had a shot the day of surgery and a shot before I left for home.
Because of my size and comorbidities, I had to get an IVC filter implanted a few days before. It prevents any would-be clots from traveling to the heart or lungs. And then in the hospital they gave me a bunch of shots of heparin. Crazy big bruises.
Those shots seem really expensive. Can you ask your doctor if there's a cheaper alternative? There are tons of similar drugs.
You should be able to go online on your insurance co's website, log in as a member, and see their prescription list for your plan, what tier the drug is, and what your co-pay would be.
Even if you plan to fill the Rx at your local pharmacy or through the hospital, your insurance co probably also has a mail order pharmacy and your drug benefits would be available for reference through their website (plus it would probably also tell you what your co-pay would be both from the local pharmacy and if available through mail order).
