Blood Thinners

Anyone out there have to take blood thinners after the surgery? If so, I have a question. I just completed my 14 days of them, required by my doctor....and there is a knot in one of the area's where I put one of the shots. It is a little tender, but, there is alot of bruising from the shots. Just wanted to know if anyone else had this happen?? I was going to call the nurse tomorrow.

You should deff. call the nurse. If you have a knot where they injected you they prob. hit one of your veins and caused it to swell up or when they injected the medicine they didn't inject it correctly into your muscle.

I was on blood thinners (self injected) for 7 days after surgery. I had a wicked ugly bruise from where they injected me right before surgery that is finally fading after 3 weeks. I had bruising on both sides of my abdomen where I injected myself but I did not have any tenderness with them or knots.

Yes and I am still on them. I was not given them right away, but developed a blood clot in my stomach after surgery. I was put on coumidin and lovenox. A bruise can definitly happen if you get yoursel good. My advise, draw a circle around it with a pen and watch its size. If it gets smaller no worries. Bigger see your doctor.

I only had the one shot after surgery and there is a definate bruise in the area where it was given.

How did you know you had a blod clot in your stomach? Was it a hard knot?

I too have massive bruising, you would have thought I was in a fight. (and thanks for doc choice...you too) Were you at the doctors office on Thursday?

Well, decided to be impatient, and called Dr. He said that it was normal from the blood shot thinners. Just wanted to make sure.

And I am glad you got the answer that you wanted to put your mind at ease. I know I kind of second-guessed every little thing after my seeve. "Is this normal? Wait...I think it's normal. Maybe it isn't. OMG!!!" :-)
