    Default binging

i keep binging on ritz crackers...and the weird thing is i NEVER get the feeling of being "full" when i eat them and by binge i mean about 8 crackers at a time... could it be because of their consistency after chewing? i'm 4 months out btw. i've always had a binge eating problem before the surgery and now i can feel the compulsion to binge coming back. what if i've stretched my sleeve? ugghh! i'm starting to freak out here which is making me want to eat the stress away. help!

** i've just crushed the last bit of crackers i had left and tossed them in the trash. i WON'T be buying them again and i'm going to tell my mom not to get them...or at least HIDE them from me.

Good for you to throw the rest away and not bringing any more in the house. I have found there are certain things I just have to stay away from ... because once I start, it is so hard to stay away. Make sure you are drinking enough water and getting enough protein. I find when I want something to much on, I eat a sugar free Popsicle. Not the same, but it gives me something to do and hopefully the urge passes. Good luck!

Some days or some things, I can eat more than others. Then the next day I'm back to restriction again. And I'm always so glad to feel it again. I think you can only stretch out the sleeve if you overeat for a period of time. More than a few days. If you keep an eye on the protein it helps with the binging. Some things trigger craving, like artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and sugars. They can be. Treat but not everyday or you will want to binge. I just had this same thing, its always right before my period. Ugh, sometimes I wonder if a hysterectomy would have solved half my probems with eating!

Nope, I can pretty much tell you a hystie won't make a difference. As a matter of fact I gained my last 110 lbs after my hystie. I know you were speaking tongue in cheek but just in case you wondered... it just makes it worse. Especially if, like me, one refuses to take hormones.....

well it is that time of the month for me and usually i get the strongest cravings around this time. i'm hoping it'll pass soon. i'm thinking about seeing a psychiatrist to help me identify my binge triggers. i've been at a stall for about three weeks now and i think those crackers are too blame! crackers and peanut butter are my weakness.

Yes, I usually feel if I am craving carbs/baked goods that if I can substitute protein, like having string cheese or something, usually ends up being more satiating. Because if I start with the crackers or pretzels, it's too easy to eat a couple, then a while later eat a couple more, and graze and graze. Need to break that habit.

Once you get carbs out of your life, esp short life carbs, you'll stop craving them. I occasionally re-read Atkin's book & whether your a believer or not, his book is full of good information which makes more sense in a post op sleeve world. Particularly the CCLL or Critical Carb Losing Level. Everyone's is different. Some ppl can tolerate 20 grams of carbs a day to lose while others may be 40 or 60. Point being, everyone is different. Once your body has completed the carb mourning process, 2 - 5 days, it stops craving the quick sugar, fast burn, short life carbs. Complex carbs last longer & have a smaller impact on your glycemic index. Long story short; LESS CARBS = MORE SUCCESS!

i tried keeping keeping my carbs at 20grams a day for a week and lost about 4 pounds (from a stall) then gained them back as soon as i went over the 20grams! i guess i know now what i need to do, lol. but it's extremely difficult to keep it that low!!

and @splendaaa- how many do you eat at a time? do you pair them with something else like peanut butter or cheese? the ones i'm having trouble with controlling are the honey wheat ritz crackers...i think it's the hint of honey that's driving me crazy now that i think about it. HA

thank you everybody for your inputs

I read the book, Emotional First Aid Kit for WLS. explained a lot about triggers to certain foods. It helped me.
