What a fun post! It's been almost two years on this incredible journey. After surgery, I became lactose intolerant. I can have a little bit of cheese, but have to watch the protein bars for whey and milk ingredients.

What do I miss? Chugging an ice cold diet Pepsi and the ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. My water bottles are my friends and go everywhere with me.

What don't I miss? Being the fastest person in the room. It has taken a while to get used to the new body size. I've gone from size 22-24 to a 4-6. Catching sight of a reflection can still get me by surprise. Those ARE my legs. I still feel fat, but have a feeling the extra around my midsection is skin.

People who haven't seen me for a while don't recognize me - which isn't always a bad thing.

I haven't been on this forum for quite a while. I'm one month shy of my 2 year surgiversary!

Things I don't miss: being embarrassed in public, an unattractive wardrobe, looking terrible in just about everything I wore, having a particular female relative obviously glad I was fat, my calves being too big for leather winter boots, my adult sons telling me I better look after my health because they want to have me around for a long time.

Things I do miss: sometimes I miss really pigging out.

The wonderful part: a few days ago a man asked if I was my husband's daughter! Later, the same man asked the group we were with to move closer together. We had to be within arm's length. Referring to me he said, "These smaller women have a hard time reaching that far." He does not know how he made my day...and every day since!

"Lee, by "own it!" your daughter means that you should be proud of your accomplishment and understand that you deserve this. Not because you have to pay it forward or backward to justify your own benefits. She means that this is YOUR accomplishment, and accomplishing that for yourself is enough. You do not have to fix everybody. And you do not owe anyone for the benefits you have earned. They are YOURS!" Ann2

I'm 4 yrs and 7 months out. I am one of the unlucky 1 of 100 who got post bariatric post prandial hypoglycemia, and then got severe gastritis for 27 months because I was not given the meds to help gallbladder issues. I miss my life. I miss working. I'm on ssdi. I spend my days timing my food, watching my blood glucose and deciding what I can eat and not faint.
I know this is rare... but I know of two other who had this surgery and got this issue just on this site so it does happen.
if you are considering this surgery AND you have ever had hypoglycemic issues. Please consider again. It's not worth it.
yes, I lost 118 lbs in 9 months, some of which I ultimately gained back while on meds and eating to fight gastritis (starches required). I did manage to keep 85 lbs off..but I've lost my ability to work and to even exercise because my sugar is so volatile. I would say this may have added a few years to my life with the weight loss but my disability took that and more away. This is not to be done lightly.
I'm sorry but it has to be said if I can save one other person from this hell.
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

Wow had no idea. That really is horrible. What about Acarbose and Miglitol? Or Pramlintide? Your life must be hell and I am so sorry that happened.
