    Default Low Vit D level

I recently had blood work done to complete my pre-op labs. Well, turns out my Vit D level was low.. 17! So I was prescribed 50,000 Units of Vit D for 12 weeks. Anyone else have Vit D levels?

This MUST be the answer as to why I am not wanting to exercise

I've been low on Vitamin D before my surgery and was prescribed the 50,000 Units of D for 12 weeks. Then you go for 1 a month ... for a long time. I take Vitamin D with my calcium so I no longer take the 50,000 units. They will wait a while and test again to see if I'm getting enough with my calcium and other vitamins. I think it is fairly common ... I've known several other people who have had to take Vitamin D ... that have not had the sleeve. Take care.

I had to take Vitamin D pre surgery as well. I have not been tested since I took them. I have next test early in December. Vitamin D deficiency is caused by not getting enough sun. Most people regardless of where they live have it.

I just got my 6-week post-op blood work back and my vitamin D was low and also at a level of 17. None of the three doctors seemed too alarmed and just told me start an over the counter supplement.

Low Vitamin D level is the number 1 vitamin defency in gastric sleeve patients per my MD. She told me if I were to take any vitamin that is the one to take!

Prior to my thyroid cancer I dealt with low Vit. D and was prescribed 50,000 unit tablets to take daily. Low levels really do make a difference. I took the Rx for a few months and once my numbers came up my doctor dropped the recommendation down to an OTC dosage. I still take this and Vit. D. screening is part of my post-cancer blood work.
