Question are you worried about your ability to follow the diet guidelines after surgery?

This question was part of my psych eval! How would you answer? If you have already been sleeved what would you have said prior to your surgery? I answered that I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about that? I mean nothing has worked long term prior to this!?!? I know this is supposed to work but we do occasionally hear of those that lose and gain back or those that lose a smaller portion and then kind of go back to old ways..... Scary? I could have lied and said... Nope, not me I will follow to the tee but jeeze!

I was worried.. but being almost 3 months post op i dont have a problem following it. I'm hardly ever hungry and when i am .. I cant eat much at a time so i generally go for something thats good for me since i cant eat much. The not being hungry party helps ALOT!

I totally agree with Cindy. Since I can't eat much I do tend to go for things that are better for me. I do have the occasional piece of chocolate. But I've found a small piece satisfies instead of the whole bag. Can't imagine what they are looking for as far as an answer but I think the answer you gave shows you have thought about it and worry. I know it has been said before; our sleeves are a tool the help us on the journey. Good luck.

Been through that when I got my lapband. They're looking for people who are REALISTIc, and they can tell if you're lying. They want to know that you're in touch with your feelings and fears because we have them; it's what we DO with them that matters. Be truthful and it will be fine.

I told the truth. Yes, I'm worried. Why wouldn't we be? If we were physically able to stick to a "healthy" eating plan, none of us would need this surgery. But it's a physical thing happening here, the removal of 85% of our stomachs changes more than how much we can eat. It changes everything about food, at least so far for me. Eating is like something I have to do now.
But you can't know that pre-surg, so yes, you'd be worried. And rightfully so. It's impossible to know how your relationship with food will change until after you've experienced the surgery.

I would think that 99.9% of overweight people will have your same feelings, that is mostly why we are overweight to begin with. I know myself this time of year coming up to halloween is hard because me and my family really get into it. We start buying candy like almost 3 months out so we can give the kids the good candy like miniature chocolates and such, We sit out at the end of our driveway and hand candy out all night. Now we have this big huge crawfish boiling pot full of candy sitting around the house just for the sneaking... Oh god give me strengh to resist lol. Chocolate was my biggest challenge before the surgery and I just know if I let myself indulge in just one stupid peice I will have the proverbial "Green Light" in my brain that its ok to do so and I dont know if I ever want that light to turn green again. This has been the best experience I have ever gone through losing this weight and I never want it to end.

    What a fascinating question!

I think I would answer that yes, I would be worried as would be normal in a new situation, but know that since I hate pain and eating incorrectly (too much) would bring pain and since I dislike failure and eating incorrectly would defeat the purpose of the sleeve, I would eat correctly.

I have a hard time with it because Im a sweet eater and sad to say there is no dumping so I can still eat sweets. The good news is I dont crave them as bad and if I eat my protein first then its hard to stuff it in. I do eat a SF fudge bar ice cream at night after dinner. I have had a total of 2 oreos in 2 months, and they werent on the same day. Its very easy for me to not eat regular food however,,,,its the sweets only for me.

I am about 25 days out from my VSG. I had no problems at all with the liquid diet post-op phases. But the oddest thing happened this week when I transitioned into the pureed phase; I started really being hungry. Now, others are right, since the ability to eat any amount of food is hampered, I can't eat much but it seems I am not satisfied now. Praying this struggle ends soon.

Great sharing---I so feel each and every one's examples and warnings. What I have found is it is hard enough to get the stuff in that I should have that I don't really have time to do any cheating or bad eating. IF my husband is having chips with his lunch, I might reach over and have a couple---and that seems to be enough to satisfy me. Yesterday a friend handed me a bowl or popcorn---I BELIEVE THAT POPCORN SHOULD HAVE IT'S OWN FOOD GROUP!!! I started eating it 30 chews, about 3 kernels at a time. Well, that takes a long time, I had other stuff to get onto---I AMAZED MYSELF---I set the bowl down and didn't look back!!! WOOT WOOT!! So yes, being worried before/after/and during is an honest answer. As far as worry, I worried when I ate and when I didn't WTH kind of a question is that???

Where did you have your surgery done? Mine was 25 days ago as well and Dr. Kim was my surgeon too. I had mine done at Wise Regional in Decatur. We may have been hospital buddies!! lol I am a teacher too. They told me that day that there were like 9 teachers there. Poor 5th floor staff!!
