Nothing will go wrong! I promise you will be fine. Just pray. I have had 3 Csections
That is scary! They do these surgeries all the time. Just be faithful. You will be fine. The worst that could happen is a leak and that risk is over 2 months out. Those are very rare. Trust me the hardest part is not the surgery is the eating after! OMG the changes you have to make. Its like I want pizza, cheeseburger, fries, and I physically can't! I have to say NO. That self denial is so hard. Eating slow waiting the 30 minutes to drink! That has been the hardest. I am at 3 weeks and eating sucks right now because I am on puree. It's doable, but challenging. I will pray for you. You will be fine...promise!

Doubt and reflection are normal as this is both major surgery and a lifestyle change. Not knowing your situation, no one but you and your surgeon can tell you if this the right thing for you. That said, this has saved my life. A previous PCP failed to inform me I had developed chronic kidney disease and it wasn't reported to me until it was already in stage 3. My unconfirmed sleep apnea was causing me to be tired all the time. I would have severe migrains from lack of oxygen. I would get up roughly every twenty minutes through the night to pee. I would frequently pass out while watching tv. My legs would swell constantly. Each morning I would start the day surprised I was still alive. Every night I dredded going to sleep and wondered if I would be alive in the morning. My quality of life was non-existent. I had a negative attitude. I was eating like crap and drinking 10-12 twenty ounce bottles of Diet Dr. Pepper daily.

All of that changed upon learning about the chronic kidney disease. My sleep apnea was confirmed by testing and overnight monitoring. An index of 5 qualifies as sleep apnea and an index of 70 is considered severe. My sleep apnea index was scored as 123!

I started to take control of my own health care management. I chose a new PCP and was at one point seeing five different specialists. All of whom confirmed what I didn't want to admit. My BMI of 59.8 was severely doing a number of my body and organs.

For me WLS surgery was not an elective, it became a necessity. Weighing at one point 457 lbs, I was instantly approved for surgery in October of 2013. However, I was fooling myself and rescheduled it for 1/7/14 thinking I would just lose the weight (I had previously lost 160 lbs several years ago) and I already planned to go to Colorado to go trick or treating with my nieces. I could barely walk and had a pannus that was at the time estimated at 50-60 lbs and was contributing to back pain. By the time I waddled sideways to the first class seat I paid for because I couldn't fly coach, I finally accepted I would have the surgery.

This was further confirmed when my brother who took us to a red robin on a Friday night somehow not realized it would be packed. He loves booths and of course the only seating available was a corner $&@(-ing booth. I wedged myself into the both on the end. I felt the lowest I had ever felt as my Pannis was both above and below the table. I tried to hide it with my coat. However, throughout the meal I could see people at other tables looking my way. I wanted to hide. I wasn't mad at my brother, I was mad at myself for letting things get to this.

Now fast forward...it has been 465 days since surgery. My sleep apnea is no longer an issue. The weight continues to come off and my chronic kidney disease has been upgraded to stage 2. I no longer get migraines. The leg swelling and nocturnal bathroom visits have gone away. I now sleep six hours UN interupted. My attitude is vastly improved. I'm probably leaving out several things that have also improved, but you get the idea. If you have similar symptoms to what I described, this is for you. If you want to take control of you life and avoid the bleak exexperiences that I mentioned, then this is for you.

Good luck and feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

You've got this. You'll do great. I'm feeling great and 3 days post-op. Just remember after to sip liquids and walk.

    Good luck!

Reena, I'm with you girl. I haven't had my first visit yet. I just got my approval and my first appointment is April 29th. I'm at 300 lbs I'm 5'7" and 52. I have always struggled with my weight. I can remember being in 4th grade weighing 140 lbs. I was made fun of in school although I chose to ignore the comments from those mean kids But I carried that hurt with me home everyday from school. But I learned to have a calous on my feelings with food. And I had many friends that loved me despite me being 3 times bigger than them. I remember always people saying You have such a pretty face. I lost weight in my late 20s after being in an abusive marriage , 2 pregnancy and a divorce. I got back into the dating scene so I lost weight probably due to nerves and struggling with anxiety and panic disorder. I became argophobic, didn't drive didn't go out of my house two boys raising on my own...Thank God for my parents. Anyway I said all that to say...I'm so ready to get my life back. I have been remarried for 11 yrs I have 5 beautiful grand-babies. I have a good marriage but there is no intamacy there anymore because I am ashamed of my body and my husband is so very patient... I love to dance and I walk all the time but the weight just stays there, i'm on hormones mega supplements..I have alot of fill in the blanks in this paragraph but maybe this was what I needed to put it out there. Get it off my chest...So what if I'm judge by others...Just get it out there LET IT GO..as my grandaughters favorite movie/song implies...LOL LOL I know having this surgery is the best tool made available to me (us). I believe that God has seen me struggle for so long and there is a reason he has given these doctors the knowledge to be able to do this surgery. I am scared of being put under...I don't want this anxiety to get in the way of me and the rest of my healthy life...Any advise any encouragement is so very welcomed....Anyone from Houston, Tx area. Good Luck to you all and God Bless.

Thanks for encouraging words and good luck to you for your appointment on 29 th I will be thinking about you, same as you I always use to get picked on by other kids because I use to be overweight I had absolutely no self confidence growing up but I have wonderful husband we have been married for 26 years
And he never sees me as heavy weight person like other people do,I did have a lap band placed in 2008 and I had to remove it due to complications in 2011
,my major reason for doing surgery is I want to feel better I have lot of herniated disc from car accident years ago,bad arthritis in knees, diabetes and
High blood pressure so I want to get rid of all this ailment and be around to see my grand kids,Again good luck to you.
    Regards,
    Reena

if youre going to dump - dont throw out diabetic test strips. i found someone local who was willing to pay for them (so long as the boxes were not opened. ended up with about $100 in cash for strips to a meter i was no longer using.
