Default What doesn't go down must come up...ouch and other things 12 days post op.

I am post op about 12 days and the last couple have been rough. Eggs were OK a few days ago but now are a no and toast was OK but now no. I realize my back pain is really my new stomach pain and I am having a hard time with the pain. Anyone know of a over the counter pain pill that is small but I won't have to take 20 to get relief? And am I trying to hard with the foods? I have lost about 25lbs since pre-surgical diet. It has been hard getting the protein in but my vitamins, calcium and b12 have been no problem. I also have a few prescription pills I have to get in and though they are smaller than an m&m they hurt. I am still feeling pretty tired. All of this normal?

Just a thought, have you tried asking for pain relief in pessary form, i had them once when i had a really bad throat and couldn't swallow, they worked wonders. Granted not a nice thing to talk about but if it works

I'm one to talk but is toast and eggs on your diet yet? It may be too soon.

What I like best for OTC pain relief is aleve but my husband prefers advil. After surgery I had liquid loritab, but never needed it. I would suggest a BC but it might make you sick. Besides right now may not be a good time to be taking a blood thinner. I guess I'm no help at all with that part but I would double check the satage of the diet you should be on. Hope you feel better!

I think that you are trying too hard with the food. I don't think that you should be eating breads and such yet. You are supposed to be on a pureed diet after 2 weeks. I am today just 2 weeks out. I haven't even tried eggs yet. I tried the Chobali yogurt (which I found to be gross), but it is high in protein. I tried a little ricotta cheese and string cheese slowly peeling little pieces and chewing down to almost nothing.

Are you taking nexium or prevacid. I was told that you need to be taking one for the acids. I was also prescribed a medicine called carafat which is a nasty chaulky medicine supposed to coat the area which is stapled in the stomach to avoid ulcers.

I would slow down on the hard foods, and stick to the soft protein foods and protein shakes for now. I think rushing it can cause damage to the new stomach.

I used liquid Tylenol Rapid Blast, tastes nasty but works great, or you can use the junior tylenol meltaways, they are 160mg per tab so 2 would be an average tylenol. NSAIDs are out per my doc for months.
I hear you on back pain, for me it's IBS symptoms with all the weird food. Heat packs, back and front are helping.
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

i think your pain will go away once you slow down the food intake. we are almost same post-surg day out and i'm still on full liquids. just bc your head maybe ready for softer food.. (toast isn't considered soft) but your new tummy probably isn't.

Here is what I have learned while reading this forum. 1. Diets or stages vary greatly by surgeon, for example, I could eat a soft scrambled egg at day 7 (but bread was listed as a no-no and still is). 2. Each person's healing process is unique (healing process affects what you can tolerate). 3. Everyone here loses weight at their own rate. I am 13 days out and per my surgeon eat grilled fish, scallops, shrimp, etc without a problem but that is me...my suggestion is that if you can not tolerate it, go back to softer foods.

Now tummy pain. I had a terrible time with stomach acid after my surgery. I took 2 previcids daily (RX) + needed tums or zantac or the like on top of it to get the knawing to stop. I haven't tried any additional pain killers yet so I can't speak to that but the dissolvable kind sound like a great idea!

    Hope you feel better soon!!

I am really trying to be conscious of what I put in me and my program through my doctors is a little to fast paced I think in regards to moving forward to the next phases. I appreciate everyone's comments and I really appreciate having this forum to come to because without it I would be lost trying to get real views. I have cut out the eggs and toast, but still have nausea. It is weird I don't feel hungry but I do get this horrible empty feeling like I am caving in if I don't keep enough in my stomach. I am hoping it will get a bit better. The stomach pain is a bit better and I am just kind of dealing with it since it seems most pills are to big and baby aspirin barely takes off the edge unless I take a lot which just adds to the nausea. I do take Protonix because even before the surgery I had GERD really bad and hopefully the more I lose the better that will get. I have been told it will. I know the bypass would have gotten rid of it but I did not want the malabsorption which I have heard from some can be very difficult. So one hour at a time for me. Thank you all for your comments! =0)

Just wanted to chime in here. I was told by my dr any Advil, aleve, BC or "type products NSAID's are off limits for anyone with gastrectomy or gastric bypass unless a strong ant acid is taken with it then ONLY once in a while IF necessary. I wanted to take some so bad the week i came home and strggled with pain as i hate narcotics. So i did liquid tylenol and everyone is different it wasnt awful to me i would chase it with a little strawberry crystal light and since the tylenol is cherry it was not bad. I just had to take 2 tablespoons in stages 1 then wait 15 mins then the other. It did get old took 1 whole bottle the 1st week, today I am 2 weeks and 6 days post opp I was told i can take the tylenol pill now so now i take the rapid release gel caps but i only took 2 today for the 1st time since the beginning of last week. In terms of the bread, bread is not bad unless its white bread it also can suck up the acid. I would go with what your dr says and what your tummy above all says. For me i dont get "hungry" no pains or anything, I know im hungry when i get real sick to my stomach and want to vomit and i know i havent eaten in about 4-6 hours. Our food digest faster than most. My back hurts as ell every day and through the night mine is fromt he tummy pain and the shift in weight from walking so slow and not regular yet. I had issues with a food i ate yesterday and is on my "NOWAY list" for quite sometime, so hunny went and got me some good can soups with veggies and such so i can run them through the magic bullet and get some good nutrients in. Its trial and error. I know my pain will go away soon the last 2 days have not been so good but i know one day at a time and i pray your pain eases up and you find some foods you like some things i been eating are

Protein shakes: i add a tablespoon of fat free sugar free jello pudding mix to them and high protein soy mik about 4 oz and some ice
    cottage cheese
    greek yogurt
low sugar regular low fat yogurt
mushed steam in bag veggies they get so soft you can mash them or blend them
    mashed potatoes
    maccaroni and cheese
tilapia- grilled- it gets so soft it actually just melts in your mouth like butter and i get the classic Gortons Fiherman brand
deli turkey meat, mushed and blends nice i add a bit of horse radish to it and mustard i love the bite
i eat laughing cow baby bell chesse i chew it til it creams in my mouth
    table spoon of peanut butter
when i want a piece of toast or something i have a whole weat pretzle it just disolves in my mouth and i swollow it i may have 2-3 for a snack
    laughing cow cheese
    cream cheese
    any soup

I pray this helps some thanks and God Bless
