Default feeling excited yet nervous as heck

Good afternoon all, I just wanted to introduce myself and share a bit of information. I am 31 years of age and currently 260lbs. My surgery date is on the 30th of this month and I have so many emotions running through me right now. I figured this would be a great way to calm myself.

I know what you mean. My surgery date is the 25th of this month. I am not nervous yet but I am starting to second guess myself. Am I sure that I want this done, is it the right way to get weight off. If you know God then give it all to Him and He will guide you through. Good Luck and God bless

Thanks Mike. My boyfriend tell me the same thing several times a day. It's just the first thing I'm considering that's so drastic.

I guess we're all in the same boat with the nervousness0yikes... but as "care bear" says we need to think keep thinking positive(smiles). I'm excited cause I'm hoping we'll get ourselves together as far as choices and not make the same mistakes again. On the same token I'm just as nervous but I know God's got us all! Like "Neil2" my surgery is April 6th. Will check on each other as our surgeries get close....take care guys.

Welcome and try to keep your nerves under control. This is a wonderful journey you are embarking on. My suggestion is - read and learn as much as you can.... go to all your support groups that your surgery group offers and ask tons of questions. Remember though that all our information on this site is simply our own experiences. Ultimately you need to listen to and follow your surgeon. I wish you only good things as you begin your journey to a sleeved life.

Every journey begins with one small step....

Neil2, being that your wife has had it and you get to see 1st hand the side effects. I would think you would be somewhat calm.

    Hello Nienie,

I just had my surgery two weeks ago and I also was so nervous. You will be fine. Just follow all the instructions from your doctor. Best of luck!

I am right there with all of you in terms of nerves. I have been considering this procedure for 3-1/2 years now. I had insurance approval in the fall of 2011, then had trouble coming up with all the co-pays and deductibles and decided it just wasn't meant to be, that I would lose the weight another way. Well, now 3-1/2 years later and I lost weight, then gained it back and more. I am scheduled for surgery on April 2. Part of me keeps wanting to back out, as I keep thinking of all the things that could go wrong, especially as I am 63 and have many other health problems. I also worry if I will be able to deal with all the profound differences in eating and drinking afterwards. Sometimes I'm convinced this is the only thing that will improve the quality and length of my life; at other times I think this is just too drastic.

Mine is the 24th, the day before my 61st birthday. Like you I'm excited and nervous. My doctor is Guillermo Alverez. He did my niece and she has lost 80 pounds and looks amazing.

The closer you get to surgery, the more emotions you'll have running wild. I am having my surgery this coming up Wednesday and I have been excited, nervous, scared, etc. I'm also shocked that I am even doing this because it totally goes against anything that I have ever done and I am facing my biggest fears by doing this. I am leaving my whole wold "my husband and my 3 kids", I am traveling somewhere by myself "I want even go eat in a restaurant by myself", I am flying, and I am headed to a place that I have never been...to freakin' Mexico. I even stop and ask myself what tha heck I am doing? But you know what, I have pondered on having the gastric sleeve for over a year. Then last week, I just up and decided that I was going to do it even if I had to go by myself. And I am because the people who offered to go with me, they couldn't go soon enough to suit me lol. I was ready to schedule it and get it done before I talked myself out of it. So, here I am 3 days pre-op. I want this bad enough that I will face these fears ... I know that it will make me a healthier/happier and stronger person. And when I start doubting it all and thinking the "what ifs" I have to stop and remind myself that I am really not gonna be alone because the Lord will be right there with me every step of the way. He will see me through. He already knows what I am up against and whatever happens will be in his will ...whether I am here or there. But I have faith and that's what I turn to. That and determination ;-). I am determined to go and do this for ME and to make it back home to my family so we can start a healthier lifestyle together. What may be the small things to some people are the big things to me and I am tired of missing out on em". I want to be able to jump on the trampoline with my kids instead of them asking me and having to tell them that I am over the weight limit. I want to be able to get on my horse without feeling like I should be the one carrying him hahaha, I also wanna be able to get up there without being embarrassed by needing a lift since I struggle to get into the saddle due to my weight, I don't want to sit on the beach or at the pool and try to hide because I hate my size...while my husband and kids are playing in the water & having fun, I wanna be with them. I could go on and on about the things that I have been missing out on. This sleeve gives me a chance to change that!!! It's all about your mind set hun'...focus on you, what you want out of life, what you've been missing, and who you've got lifting you up.

It's normal to be nervous. Some friends at work had the surgery & I decided that I just did not have the fortitude to do it again...I have a failed lapband. Then 1 day I was in the big girl's dept at Macy's & that was that...... It was the game changer. I will be 64 on Tues. My husband wanted to know why I did not wait a year & Medicare will pay. I asked him " Can you imagine how big my azzzz will be in a year". That settled that discussion. I think that if you are in your 60's this is you window of opportunity. Do it while you can....
