Default I feel hungry five weeks out

I'm five weeks out and have lost 17lbs since the op. Pleased with that. But I feel hungry. Good old fashioned hunger, just like I had before the op. I'm disappointed by this and feel like it'll make the next few months much harder than they otherwise would've been. I'm really having to resist grazing. Just wanted to know if anyone else feels hungry.

During the time I have been a member of this board I have seen posts run the range from hunger right away to no hunger at all.

I still feel no hunger. That is not really a benefit because it makes it very difficult to get my nutrition in. I have to set my alarm as a reminder, and if my phone happens to be turned off at the time than I will forget to eat. That doesn't mean if I walk past Cinnabon I won't want one, it's just that the response is more like Pavlov's response than actual hunger.

    Best wishes to you!

    Eat 2 oz of protein.

Here is beauty of this diet, at this stage, 3 oz of fish will make you near throw up because its so much. Eat that, you likely need the protein anyway.

My 1 month check up is coming up so I'll I've been "Eating" has been protein shakes and water for the last 4 weeks. I feel hungry but not as hungry as I felt earlier post-op.

Truthfully most hunger I feel is more craving than actual hunger so I categorize it as head hunger, like this is how I sort it:

If I want to eat something specific, say like a burrito, I classify it as head hunger and ignore it.
If I just feel hungry but no specific food pops in my head I drink more protein/water/powerade to make me feel full

From what I've read this is just something you have to manage for the rest of your life post-op and why people say this is a tool and not a miracle solution.

Yup, I feel hunger. When I do, I eat. If it's not a meal time, usually a few ounces of protein takes care of it. For me, carb hungry is not real hungry. It's an insulin imbalance or a head craving, although if the hunger is persistent and carb cravings continue, I'll add a healthy carb to my next meal. Brown rice cooked with chicken bullion is a fave. Toss in some chicken and brussel sprouts and serve with a curry sauce. Yum.

For people that soon out, the most likely cause of hunger is excess stomach acid. If they did not automatically put you on a few months of an acid reducer, call and ask or just get it over the counter yourself. There are different kinds that act different ways. Best is to see what your doc says, but if not try zantac or omeprazole. Walmart, etc have these over the counter - you can ask the pharmacist for advice too.

I get the same way, but once I drink some water or ice chips, it will subside. What is really strange is I feel and hear the stomach growl but I would not be hungry. If the ice and water doesn't help, string cheese. 80 cal and 7 grams of protein, you can shredd it up so it looks like you are eating a lot even if its a ounce.
