Default Extra skin have removed or not?

I would like to know how many of those who have been sleeved have had to get surgery for extra skin? I hear some say that it will go away in time. I know it's probably very expensive and i'm 50 so I just wonder at my age and income is it worth doing. I would have to take out a loan or something i'm sure. I am just starting on my Wl journey surgery 1/22 so I can wait a bit to decide. I was just looking for some input thanks so much.

Some people pop back better than others. If you're a smoker, it damages your skin. My mother-in-law smoked and they turned her down for a face lift because of that. Maybe they wouldn't do that today. It depends on your age and how much weight to be lost. I think they want you to maintain your goal weight for a year before plastic surgery such as that. I'm sure there are people here who could enlighten you more than I have!

I am just starting to seek out surgeons. I met one last week who I really liked, and I am meeting another one this week.
I have lost 170 pounds and for me personally, I know and have been told it will not go away with exercise and toning. It is there until I have it it surgically removed.
I am looking into loan processes, and care credit, or any route that might be an option. I have some that might be covered by insurance but you have to have lots of doctors records/notes and photos.
I have worked so hard to get this far, for me it is the last step of what I need to do. You're 50, not 90 If it will make you feel better about yourself and you have a positive outlook about it, then I think by all means go for it young lady!

You may not need it. I know a woman, 45 who didn't need it after losing 110lbs.
I think where mature women need surgery post weight loss often times is the face. The face often (not always,,this woman didn't have problems with her face either) sags along with the neck and jowls. You have a nice slim body but look 10 years older.
I had a facelift (and other facial cosmetic surgery) a year before my WLS. I was 150lbs at the time,,,after yet again another diet. Now that I am 155lbs (or less I hope I am nearly the weight I am when I had surgery so my face hasn't been affected.I was very concerned about that.
I think skin removal is the icing on the cake after WLS. I will/would do it if I need it. So far so good though.
Mexico has some amazing surgeons who do a lot of surgery post WLS.
Don't be afraid to go to Mexico. I have been twice now. Just do your research and you will be fine.

I will be 40 in May. I lost 100 pounds, 3 years ago. My skin did not bounce back; so, I had the excess removed in December. I am thankful for it. So far, it has only been 11 pounds lost but 12" from my waistline.

You have plenty of time to focus on your weightloss. Most surgeons won't even talk to you for at least year, after your weight is stable. Best wishes!

I had surgery aug 21 2013 and i have lost 110 pounds. I have exercised but my stomach has to much loose skin for my liking. I like the way i look with clothes on but naked I feel unattractive so my next surgery in scheduled for 2/18/2015 I want to give myself the gift of a body I like. I have worked hard and for the first time in my life I feel like I will keep the weight off. Thank God for the sleeve it has been a journey and I am excited to get the excess skin removed. FYI I am 48 almost 49 years old so my skin is not as elastic as a younger persons so surgery will fix it.

it all depends on your skin type and age. Some people bounce back while others like me *31 year old mom of 3* had to have a tummy tuck. You can click my profile and see the pictures in the albums. Though tummy tucks are not for those that can't handle pain. When they say "worst pain of your life" they weren't kidding.

    Welcome!
You won't know for sure until you get close to goal, but, there's a couple things you can look at, such as:
Have you lost/ regained large amounts of weight before?
    Have you had any children?
Have you/ do you work out regularly?

Those will effect your skins elasticity. I have rollercoastered with my weight all my adult life. I've had 2 kids. I workout regularly now, but I never did before. So I have a lot working against me. I've lost 71% of my weight, and I have significant apron, so I'll probably need it.
It won't hurt to start saving up. If you don't end up needing it, use the money to go on vacation to celebrate your new body!
    Good luck!

I lost over 160# and while my skin bounced back in previous years weight losses, in truth I never actually got "thin". Alot depends on how much weight you lose and how much it matters to you. I am now 50 - lost weight and did plastics in my late 40s and i am loving it!

I attached a little collage - mistake - the first photo was from 2011 pre sleeve!

    158# Feb 2013 - GOAL lost 150# 14 months post op
150# 10/14/2013 - Plastics Dr Sauceda in Monterrey Mexico; removed 5.5# of skin
140# Apr 2014 - maintaining 168# weight loss currently. Very happy with my sleeve and plastics results!

I would suggest a body lift...that lifts all the skin not just the skin on the tummy. I know a lady who is 60 and lost a ton of weight. She went for a consult for a tummy tuck and her surgeon suggested a full body lift.

Amazing Bluetattoo. What weight were you at before you plastic surgery?, if you do not mind sharing. Did you have the belt lipectomy?
    Congratulations to you!
