Default How bad is the first week after surgery

Well I have 8 day til my surgery. I have 3 kids 10,6 and 2. Just wanted some input on how weak everybody has been the first week. I know the first week is the hardest but is it so bad that you just lay around except to do your walking? Please share with me how your first week went after surgery.

There was no laying around for me. My husband took the day of and day after my surgery off, but after that he was back to work and I was back to getting the kids to and from school and all the activities around that (make sure everyone got a bath, packing lunches, cooking dinner, laundry, etc). I was able to do this as long as I made sure to rest throughout the day. For me, it was really the painkillers that made me exhausted, so I stopped those and was able to do what I needed. Found I didn't need them anyway.

Bottom line though is that this is different for everyone. I was lucky and had surgery on Tuesday and worked from home at my desk job all day Saturday because I had a client go live happening. My co-worker offered to cover, but I felt up to it, so I did it. It didn't wear me out or cause any pain. Not everyone is as lucky as I was. Hopefully, you will be.

I hung out a lot in my recliner the first week, sipping my protein drinks. And I walked. Then I went back to my recliner. I would suggest you get someone to help with your children just for that first week so you can get the rest you need to recover and heal. It would also help to have someone do the cooking and cleaning up for your family, so you don't have to worry about food you won't be eating.

It seems that everyone has different experiences the first week after their surgery, I found that my first day home from the hospital I was very week, it took a few days to start feeling back to myself. I have always bounced back pretty quickly and never felt so weak, but I had a lot of blood loss after surgery and my levels were low. It did not seem to be like when you are sick and you can't do anything, it just takes a bit longer, plus you are trying to figure out how to fit in all of your fluids etc. I wish you the best, take care of yourself as much as possible. I am sure you will be great!!!

I only had the weekend off of work and was back to work on Monday. No problems with weakness at all, just walking a tiny bit more slowly than normal from the incisions, but other than that I functioned like normal. I don't have kids, though, just a full-time job.

I was sleeved on a Monday and clothes shopping that Friday. My stomach really just felt like I had done too many situps the night before and the pain diminished very quickly over the first two weeks. I napped quite a bit the first two weeks and took it very easy, but did alot of walking. I slept n the recliner the first few days. I was back in the gym (cardio only) two weeks after surgery once my surgeon cleared me.
