Default Tell me I'm not a freak?!

I had surgery Aug. 29th and am down 32lbs (247-215)! I know most wait to check the scale but I had to! figure I'm doing ok, back to 4 mls a day, just speed walking , feeling great but in comparison with a friend of mine in a month she had only lost 20. Going into this the only thing that scared me was the thought of losing too much weight too soon. My sister had the bypass surgery 4 years ago and I don't think I remember her even losing that quickly. By all means I am not complaining either lol I just want to make sure its safe, as well hoping to not hit a stall I've dreadfully heard of!

Congrats on your weight loss. The speed walking must be helping. As long as the doctor is okay with what you are loosing, I wouldn't worry too much. Don't want to burst a bubble but be prepared for the expected stalls. They do happen and don't look at it as something you are doing wrong. I look at it as a time my body is adjusting to what has just happened and getting ready for the next step. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Wow, good for you for losing 32 lbs in 8 days. I would make sure I was getting all my protein in and lots of exercise. It seems that the people who lose rapidly have more problems with hair loss and loose skin. Keep up the good work.

Congrats on the weight loss! I cant tell what weight you start at.. but if you were quite heavy, the heavier you are, the faster you generally lose. I think you are doing just fine. If you were not eating enough you may even not lose as much. There's a balance you have to get to so your body doesnt go into starvation mode and hold onto fat. Just hold your head up high and dont get discouraged when you do hit a stall because i am sure it will happen. That too will pass. Enjoy the huge loss now!

I lost 29 pounds in the two weeks after my surgery. But, since week 1 was only clear liquids and week 2 was full liquids, I figured that was okay. When I started eating real food, the weight loss slowed down considerably. So, don't get discouraged by slower weight loss or stalls. As I have said before, as long as the scales are going down instead of up, I am happy!

I agree that it would be very good to get to doc or at least call asap. Rapid weight loss can be fun but it can also not be so good. As for weighing every day as many in this forum do...here are some ideas I've heard along the way about weighing oneself: Unless the doctor says to, only weigh once per week or even once per month. If we are doing what we are supposed to do, we will lose the weight and not realize the stalls are even happening. Weight fluctuates with the amount of hydration we have had each day. It is better to only weigh 1x week and chart ONLY the losses on a graph. This will give you a down ward trend rather than certain exact pounds. The graph becomes the guide rather than the scale. Don't weigh at all! Only let the Medical Assistant in your Doctor's office weight you with your back to the scale. This way you will not obsess or worry about the weight at all and will just focus on the new healthy lifestyle and buying new clothes. So many of us have defined ourselves by the number on the scale for soooooo lonnng. If it is down we are good little girls and boys, if it is up we are devastated and may be more tempted to sabatoge our diet an exercise plans.
I am using and plan to use some of these tips because I tend to obsess and I tend to define my worth by my weight. While this is about weight loss, it isn't about weight loss at the same time. It is about my relationship w myself, others and God and my willingness to go to any lengths to get well and free.
Mourning may last all night but joy comes with the morning light.
