I am choozing the sleeve. But I would do your own research and see which is best for you. For me the sleeve makes for sense.

I would do your research on all procedures, the one thing I would say is don’t do a band. Everyone is unique so you have to pick what will be best for your weight loss and how much you want to lose. Another thing, if you’re going through your insurance then you may be limited to what procedures are available to you. For me personally I picked the sleeve. I was a self-pay. The reason I picked the sleeve is there was less chance of dumping syndrome, a good chance that I would not have to take vitamin supplement the rest of my life. The other was I was scared to have everything rerouted like with the by-pass. With the sleeve your digestive track and flow is the same. Last with the sleeve the part of the stomach that creates the hunger hormone ghrelin is removed.

Like the others have said do your research so you can make the best decision for you. I chose the sleeve because even though it is removing a majority of your stomach it is actually just getting it back down to a normal size which seemed no more drastic then having plastic surgery. What ever you choose it is not a quick fix and you need to fully understand that you have to make a lot of changes on your part. I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

Do your research. There are many reputable sources of information on the internet. Go to a surgical weight loss program at a local hospital and attend a bariatric surgery support group meeting or two to listen and ask questions.

I agree with the others, the lapband procedure is not as promising as it once was thought it could be. Some surgeons lean away from this procedure now.

I had a 3-ring binder filled with info for the various types of surgeries, before narrowing it down to the Roux-En-Y and VSG procedures. After discussing it with my surgeon and knowing the pros and cons of all the surgery types, the VSG was my choice. As mentioned there is a decrease in Ghrelin production, I liked the idea of not re-routing my duodenum and jejunum and some other concerns with the Roux-En-Y procedure and the benefit of the few percent improvement of excess weight loss and lower comorbidities was not worth it to me. Mind you, that any weight loss surgery has it own set of risks.

Do your homework and discuss it with your surgeon and PCP to see what would be the best choice for you (based upon your medical condition).
Also, some of the newer procedures may not be covered by insurance.

It's hard to figure out which one is for you no matter how much research you do, it's to dame confusing.
So for me it was easy. The sleeve. The reason band is to much maintance, the by pass to much damage, the sleeve is once it's done thats it. All you have to do after that is change everything you know about eating and how you look at food. Almost been 2 years for me and the best thing I have ever done for myself. Has it been hard, hell ya, but it's getting better. But I'm still learning. Am I hungrey, yep but I work through that also with the tools I have learned.

It really is an individual choice. With the band, I didn't like the idea of a foreign object inside me, nor of having to constantly go back and have a needle stuck into me, to inflate or deflate the band. I didn't mind follow-up visits, as I have to do that with the sleeve, but the band seemed a lot of hassle and I didn't like the idea it might slip. With the bypass, it again seemed like a lot of hassle, re-routing bits, more cutting and suturing, and a free-floating stomach in which I might later get an ulcer but they wouldn't be able to check (normal method is to slip a camera down the throat). The sleeve, to me, seemed the most natural, normal route. My issue was not a terrible diet, but an ability to (and habit of) eating too much. Take away that ability, and I will lose weight.
I've never regretted it. It takes a bit of adjustment, mainly if I eat out and can't eat the portion offered. Doggy bags are my friend! But every time that happens (we have very young kids, so we hardly ever eat out!), I remind myself that large portions got me to the stage where I needed surgery. I can still satisfy any cravings, but I simply don't crave anything like I used to. Occasionally, I "need" carbs, so I indulge for a meal, but I don't put on weight. I used to crave chocolate daily - the other day, I had chocolate for the first time in 8 months. I simply don't desire it anymore.

Finally, with a sleeve, after you heal, you can eat anything. With a bypass, you cannot eat anything sugary or fatty, ever again. I wanted the choice of being able to eat anything I wanted, if I wanted.

I can honestly say, I don't regret it. There are times when I want to eat more, but can't. So be it. I had 20-odd years eating what I wanted. I can still drink wine, quite a lot in fact and, bizarrely, it helps my weight loss. Fab! This has been far easier than any "diet" I've followed before.
But...individual choice. This forum certainly helped me enormously to make up my ,I don't :-) good luck!
