Default Hysterectomy 4 months after VSG

Hello all! I had my VSG August 4th and next week I'm having a total hysterectomy (Divinci). I love the sleeve and have no regrets. I'm down 52lbs from surgery and 82 since pre-op. I have read every page here and have learned so much. Im concerned about weightloss after a hysterectomy. My doctor told me patients who had had wls do well after hysterectomy. He said no HRT for at least 3 mos due to Endo. Any experiences are greatly appreciated!

Are you having a complete hyst?? Is there anyway they will leave your ovaries? I had a partial Hyst in 2000 so I kept my ovaries as to not throw me into instant menopause. Although now I am 52 I have gone through the change and now take hormone replacements. I am doing well with my weight loss and have had no problems with hot flashes since starting my hormones this year. I wish you the very best. I am sure it will work out great for you.

I had my hysterectomy before my WLS. Go to Hysterectomy - HysterSisters, it's a fantastic hysterectomy support forum, much like this one for WLS. That site saved me from so much stress before, during, and after my hyster.

Mine was a complete, hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy (they took everything) due to PCOS, endometriosis, and adenomyosis.

Not only did that happen, but due to complications, my surgeon had to open, meaning no laprascopic, so I have a long scar. Thankfully, she did a beautiful job and it's not even visible now (although I can feel it when I run my hand over it) and it shrank from being long enough for 32 staples to only being about 6 inches long.

It threw me into menopause at 35, and boy was that ever a wake up call.

Word of advice: if they don't give you a belly binder at the hospital, buy one, it was a blessing to have that sucker after surgery.

If you wanna chat, I'm here for ya!

    Hi Rachel,

Thank you...I did check out Hystersisters. A ton of info! I am having a complete also. I packed my binder too. I used it a lot after the sleeve and felt better. I was told they may have to do open incision and I'm glad he told me upfront. I hope I won't need it. I'm actually calm about this as I think I worried so much about the sleeve that I just don't have worry left lol. I just worry about the weight.

I would think that having lost a bunch of weight will make recovery easier than it was with your sleeve. Do keep us posted.

I had a Divinci hysterectomy as well. It was amazing! I had no pain (at all) I asked if I could leave the moment I woke up... Of course they said no, I had to spend the night. My surgery was a couple years before my sleeve surgery and they left my ovaries so I am not in menopause yet. But I've had no issues

    Best wishes!

How close are you at goal? Some people have tummy tuck at the same time with hysterectomy.

    Hi all,

Had my hysterectomy yesterday. Got to the hospital by 8 and home by 5. I'm doing great! Dare I say it was easier than the sleeve! My neck is sore from being tilted back, but that's it. I actually had to look at the incisions to see it was done. My energy is awesome. I had Endo, Adnomyosis and fibroids all over. One large fibroid was in my bowel and I have stitches there and in the intestines. That must have been the pressure I constantly felt. Also, when I had the sleeve August 4th, I was told my liver was very close to cirrhosis...but now looks great. Yeah! So, I'm praying menopause will not be bad, but one step at a time!

I'm glad all went well for you and great news about the liver . I just can't believe they sent you home the same day it seams that in the USA they don't like to keep you in hospital I find it so dangerous . In the UK you would be kept in for at least 3 days maybe more it's disgusting it's not as if you have your own nursing staff and doctors at home . Hope you recover quickly .

Hi Heather, I was surprised I was able to go home the same day. I did have a room ready in case my pain was not controlled. If I had to have a large incision, I would have stayed. For the sleeve, I was in 4 days. I really feel great though. No pain or meds. It's healthier to leave the hospital due to germs and infections ( I'm a huge germaphobe) My appetite is totally gone and I while I drink my protein, I had to remember to eat to keep my strength up. I'm just relaxing and letting my hubbie and daughter take care of things.
