    Question Sleeved and Diabetic Lows

So I had a bit of a scare this evening. I was just doing my thing, playing a computer game, and suddenly started feeling weak and shaky. As a diabetic, I knew what this meant: low blood sugar. I tested and was at 66. Waited a bit, 52. Yup, low, and it was coming on strong. I actually had to eat sugar, but the funny thing was, I didn't want it. I dumped once, and that was enough to make me not want sugar. I was really careful not to overdo it, but man, it was a weird feeling after being a sugar addict for so long.

Might be time to have them check your A1c. After I was sleeved I was taken off all my medication for the first couple of weeks of liquids and then when I stared eating pureed stage they had me testing a lot. I never went back to taking the meds. I am 18 months out and my A1c last week was 6.6 so my diabetes is still diet controlled. I was taking 4 meds at the time of surgery. Godspeed on your journey.

    I think she's Type 1...not Type 2?

I am/was? type 2. At about the same amount of time out of surgery, my level dropped to the low 40's. The amazing thing was that the day it dropped that low, I hadn't taken my Lantus. Scared the bejeebers out of my husband. Luckily I had some gel packs left (I don't think I could have handled anything else as I was becoming unresponsive.)
I began doing finger sticks again. (Before surgery, I very seldom did them. The insulin I used was long term. The readings seemed to have no bearing on my diet or activity and only frustrated me to the point of what's the use.)
It was luckily, my one and only time this happened after surgery. Everything has leveled out and I am diabetic med free. My A1C has gone from 10.6 with insulin and Byetta injections to 6.7 without any meds.
Keep a close eye on your levels and talk to your PCP as maybe your meds need adjusting as you are probably not eating as junky as before surgery and your weight is lowering.

I suppose I should have clarified.

I am/was a type 2 diabetic. I am allergic to Metformin so I was on Glipizide for a while, but was taken off it before surgery and for the last 3 months before surgery was completely diet controlled. My A1c is usually in the high 5s/low 6s.

The only prescribed meds I am on now, post-op, are for hypertension, high cholesterol, and depression.
I also take a multivitamin, a calcium supplement, and a B-complex every day as per my bariatric surgeon.

Hence why I got scared, it's not like they can adjust my meds if I'm not on any to begin with!?!

it loves to tell me I'm fat; I hate & ignore that rude POS.
