    Default Carbonated Beverages

I intentionally have not had any carbonated beverages for over 2 years now. I stopped that when I began the pre-op process a couple months before my surgery that occurred on 10/29/2012. However, recently I went to a bridal shower and took a drink of what I thought was lemonade. It turned out to be carbonated lemonade punch. I didn't think about it until I swallowed it. Strangely, I didn't feel anything drastic. I felt a little bit of subtle gurgling deep in my stomach but felt nothing in my esophagus. I remember this girl giving her testimony at a seminar and she said she tried to take a drink of coke after her surgery and that it gurgled up into her esophagus and was extremely uncomfortable. I was just wondering why I didn't feel that way...

For those of you who have tried carbonated beverages after surgery, what has been your experience?

By the way, I have no intention of going back to drinking carbonated beverages, but was just wondering if I should have felt very uncomfortable after drinking the punch or if anyone else has had the same result as I did.

    Thanks!
    Rhonda

The experience I have had is just gas. It is not painful like some of the horror stories I have had it just makes me burp or pass gas the other way but nothing dramatic or worrisome.

I havent tried and have no intention of trying. I should have been off of them many years ago and always had trouble doing so for more than short periods at a time. So, I will continue to convince myself that they would be uncomfortable so that I dont ever get back on them again. Its not entirely surprising that 2 years out your stomach can handle them. I drink a 20 ounce bottle of water in little time now so the rules we had to abide by early on (sipping and taking an hour to eat) arent quite as critical (though I still chew food to a pulp so that I dont have anything get stuck) as they once were.

I have had carbonated beverage when I had tummy flu, had sprite and it was good. Settled tummy some and just made me burp. I did not drink fast just sipped over 1-2 hrs.

I did by accident last weekend for the first time since surgery. I tried a punch and didn't realize there was soda in it until I sipped it. I had the same feeling in my tummy as you.

I've taken a sip twice. Once to take medicine while out and the other for dryness. It didn't hurt me, but I would never return to it.
