    Default Question

Hey guys, want your input. I won a year long fitness membership at a gym, started in June. I hd been thinking of having a lower body lift if I can get the money in mid-November before I won the membership, then I thought when I won I would wait until the year was up so I would be in good shape for the surgery. But now am re-thinking things, if I had the surgery mid-Nov then healed for 6 weeks and re-started at the gym in January- it would give me from Jan to end of May to get back some fitness lost through the surgery. Otherwise I will have the surgery and have nothing to follow up with afterwards. What do you guys think? Have it early with time to regain at the gym post-op, or be in better shape and wait until May?? Thanks for your input, Terry

That is a tough one! I think you should do what fits best with your life and where you are at during that time. Congrats on your winning a free membership. I would love to win a free year.

Laura, amazes me that you only had 50 lbs. to lose and you did the sleeve but everyone's journey is different and kudos to you that you didn't let your weight get any further out of control. Good luck to you.

Yes I set my goal weight and it was 50 pounds but everything I tried .....I would lose to 160 pounds and then gain it back. It is a decision I made as a tool for life. Trust me I have questioned if I made the right decision especially after the last 3 weeks. This journey has been an eye opener for me. I have not been 155 pounds in over 25 years. I would like to get to 120 pounds at my 5'4" frame but I will take it little by little.

    Thanks,
    Laura

I would use the gym membership now. Get as many months in as you can. You need to exercise to help the weight loss so you might as well use the membership.

I had a body lift in March and am just now feeling up to anything. That's been 4 months. So that may help or not. Good Luck

I would absolutely use the gym membership through its completion before having a lbl. For a few reasons: I think your outcome would be better if you are better shape, the recovery is very likely to be significantly longer than 6 weeks, after a year of consistent exercise your body will change and that may alter your plastics route and could even save you some money(wouldn't that be awesome), and I think that you are far more likely to continue on with exercise as a regular part of your life if you set a pattern of doing so for a fairly long time(the year that the membership is a good example). And, lastly, I think that it would likely be beneficial to purchase a membership(or find a similarly challenging workout that you can do outside of the gym) after your plastics.

Either way, congrats on winning the membership and a BIG high five for using it!!

Yes that helps a lot, thank you. It sounds like based on your experience that the 5 months after surgery would not be utilized and it is best to wait until May for my surgery

Thank you, I hope to do that, from what Christine says after her LBL it takes a few months to really recover. It is not one of these gyms for $50/month kinda thing, it is more of a cross fit type gym which makes it even more valuable of an experience to continue with it. I have not lost weight there yet but can see a big difference in the toning- and that is just with 8 weeks so far!

you can ask to freeze your membership sometimes as long as you have a doctor note. So if you join now and get in shape and they freeze it you will still have your time left when you are ready to resume your workouts
