Unhappy My husband hid the scales....

Hello all! I know there are TONS of conversations on this forum about people hitting plateaus and not losing any weight, BUT I am not even a month out yet!!!! With the 2 week pre-op diet and the 2 weeks directly after my surgery I lost a total of 29 pounds, which I think is great. The problem is that in the past 2 weeks I have not lost 1 pound!!!! Isn't this the time when I am supposed to be losing more weight?!?!?!?! I am so freaking frustrated!!!! My husband got tired of watching my weigh every day (I know, I know - shouldn't weigh every day!!!) so he hid the scales from me ... well actually I know where they are, but since they are in the trunk of his car and he works during the day i don't have access to them

Everyone SAYS they can tell I am losing weight, but of course I CAN'T and plus the scale isn't moving. Sometimes I feel like I am eating more than I should and I wonder if something went wrong with my surgery ... (for instance I went out for sushi last night and was able to eat 4 pieces of sushi nigiri - without the rice) ... I can eat about 1/2 piece of salmon for dinner ...

I just want to start seeing results and I am beginning to get frustrated

Did your doctor say you could eat these things so early? From what I have read most are still in either liquids or mushy foods at this stage since the stomach is still healing. How much protein and water are you getting down daily? I know from low carbing the more real water (not just liquid) the more I lost. You are averaging a pound a day and most women report around 50 in 90 days as average so you are in range. What type of exercise are you doing? Maybe building muscle? Hang in there!

How many days has it been since you lost anything? Be patient. I hate that advice because I always say, "Patients belong in a hospital" but it is what we have to do. Have you thought about measuring yourself so when you hit a plateau, you can measure to see if you are loosing inches? I tend to like to scales, too, but the tape measure might be encouraging.

It's probably not what you want to hear, but I agree with your husband. My scale lives in the cardboard box from whence it came. If I weigh too often I become obsessed with numbers. Take a deep breath and walk away from the numbers.

Now's the time to focus on hydration and protein levels, NOT numbers. Everyone wants to see the scale go down, but focus on your health right now and the numbers will come. "A watched pot never boils" and all that... Not that you're a pot... the scale is a pot... not really, but... you know.

Kelleyk, this is fantastic. Calm down, take a deep breath and exhale. You sound like you are eating right to me. My meals consist of 5 bites. When I have that 5th bite I know I am full and done. One more bite will do me in and I am either miserable or sick so I don't go there. Your stomach will teach you real quick what is ok and what isn't. Take the time to listen. I am 4 months out and sometimes my scale doesn't move either...and that's ok...you need to remember, think back...what did you eat in one days time....I am ashamed to say I was eating a lot more than I even admitted to. Well , not any more and this is when the body is burning the fat. Even if the scale doesn't move it doesn't mean you aren't loosing. My whole shape has changed and so far I have only lost 60 pounds. This is right for me as others have lost closer to 100 at this stage. Not to worry. It took me a lot of years to put it on this sack of bones so if it takes me a bit longer to take it off so be in. Sometimes the greatest successes aren't the numbers coming down but when you notice, Hey, these jeans button easy and slide on with out a struggle...this shirt is loose and my greatest moment was when my collar bones made an appearance again.
Sit back, relax, eat properly and enjoy the ride. It is so worth it. Good luck, bylinda

I know how you feel, seeing that number go down is such a rush. And seeing stay the same is a real downer.... I stopped weighing myself every day and committed to weighing myself once a week.....

It takes a while for our poor abused bodies to get used to the new way we have to live post sleeve, but eventually things get better and you feel better and the weight comes off

I lost 26 pounds in the first 14 days, the brakes hit at 250 for the next 11 days. My doctor said the body is in starvation mode and it's hanging on to everything, but it will start again. Taking that into consideration, I upped my calories to 2300 for one day and BOOM!, 249 the next day. Maybe my body thought the starvation was over.

May work for you, just sayin'.

Rae, yes, my doctor included all fish on my soft food diet. Fish (especially salmon) seems to be the softest thing for me to eat. Sushi nigiri (without the rice) is also very soft. The albacore tuna all but melted in my mouth

Pam, it's been 2 weeks since I have lost anything. I am not sure if i have lost any inches because I haven't measured myself with a tape measure, but I probably should!!!!

Kiera, I am most definitely obsessed with numbers! Hopefully the scale being gone will trigger more weight loss The hubby said he isn't going to bring it out for awhile so that i quit concentrating on the numbers!!!

Linda, thanks for the comments I am DEFINITELY eating less than I was pre-surgery so that is definitely a success. I guess I am just gonna have to give it time!!!

Margie, you are right on!!! it is a rush to see the numbers go down! I guess I just need to learn patience! After all, patience IS a virtue!!!

Wendy, my husband is very supportive and a funny guy so him taking the scales was funny

Brian, I can't IMAGINE getting over 2,000 calories in a day!!! the most calories i have eaten in a day is right at 700. My dr. told me to not concentrate on calories, but to concentrate on protein. My protein intake has averaged 50 - 70 in a day.

EVERYONE, thank you for all of the kind words! I am going to keep concentrating on drinking my water and getting my protein in. Hopefully I will see some more results SOON

Sounds like you are perfectly on track to me! I think everyone hits a stall between 3-4 weeks of radically changing their diet... this includes for some people the 1-2 weeks on the pre-op diet. Sounds like you hit 4 weeks, so you are right on target. Look at your first stall (and it is only your first unfortunately!) as a milestone you HAD to pass and just get through it! Besides protein and water, start up your exercise - walking or whatever you can do. If you cant bear the thought, start trying new positions with hubby and make a list of the ones you CANT do right now because of your size... make that your "bucket" list for the next few months Definitely can burn a few extra calories trying! And way more satisfying than any old scale! good luck to you both...

oh - if you are obsessed with numbers (I am a complete data freak, graphs and all), try a pedometer or a fitbit or heart rate monitor.. .gives you some other numbers to focus on for awhile!

If it helps, my doctor agrees with your husband. I can't believe this! I went forever thinking I was the only one having this kind of problem, and now I'm reading so many who are having my same experience! I would have felt tons better if I'd realized I truly was not alone.

By the way, my doctor told me to weigh no more often than once every TWO weeks. That's gonna be a hard one for me, because I seriously think I'm addicted to weighing. I think I'm going to put my bathroom scales on the top shelf in my closet.
