I just CANNOT go forward with the RNY!!! I am going to hold off to get the sleeve!

Boy, you all have helped me so very much! I entered this journey thinking I wanted the lap band and found out very rapidly that it was NOT a good thing! I was so ready for the sleeve in every way. Since my insurance will NOT cover sleeve even after two appeals and peer-to-peer review they would cover RNY and the sleeve. I had thought I could go through with RNY. I talked to several people who have had and spent numerous hours on internet searching side effects long and short term.

You all are going to think I am a WIMP, but I just cannot do it!!!! It is much to invasive for me and life altering forever! I just cannot fathom the malabsorption and dumping syndrome and taking all of those supplements for the rest of my life.

I know it would make me loose weight, but I just cannot live with the other things that may come with it!

I am going to save my $ and go to Mexico maybe next year and have the sleeve like I wanted to. I have prayed and prayed and believe this is what is right for me! I would hop on the table tomorrow if they would cover the sleeve or I had the cash to do!!!

So.....my journey goes on until I can get to the end. I am so happy for all of you who have been able to live your dreams and get this done! I hope I get to also someday.

I am sorry to hear that your insurance won't cover the sleeve! Mine never even questioned it. I have Blue Cross PPO. I did have to jump through a lot of hoops and meet with nutritionists and get psych evals and what not but they were pretty good about it. I don't blame you for not wanting RNY. I didn't want to go down that route either. Good luck to you!

I think that you've done the research and decided what you can live with. This is how I decided what surgery to have. You appear to have made a very informed decision and that should give you great confidence in your decision!

I am so sorry, your insurance won't cover the sleeve. When I first started this process, my insurance didn't cover it either, then about a month before the surgery, they changed their policy and began covering it. I was very lucky. More and more insurance companies are changing their policies with regard to the sleeve, so keep checking with yours.

The sleeve is becoming the gold standard for bariatric surgery so just hold off. It may be covered in the near future under your plan

I have watched and read our post concerning this issue and what the others have said is so true.....you MUST do what is right for you. RNY was never a consideration for us for various reasons....and once my husband learned more about the sleeve and began to do his own research it became crystal clear this was the way to go for us. I say "us" because even though this is my life and my body....I have shared it with him for a very long time, he is my logic in a storm of confusion many times...having him on board mattered to me. So I say as long as you and whomever you turn to to be that voice of assurance and reason do what you deem to be in your best interest, how can you go wrong? =)

Good luck on your journey, stay in touch with you insurance company .....where there is a will there is a way. My insurance has no baratic coverage of any type but we attended a seminar last year anyways and did the financial counseling. We were stunned at the cost, we researched purchasing a secondary insurance plan for me, along with some other crazy stuff.....all along we were saving a few pennies here and there. My husband sent me a link one day from work and said "Hey look at this....this we can almost afford with what we have saved." We discussed the options for the remaining monies and in the end, my husband felt strong enough about this that we took a small loan from our 401k to cover the balance and traveling. We will be paying ourselves back $$ for 3 years ....but like he says, we will be reaping the benefits for the rest of my life. =)

You are not a wimp---it is so hard sometimes to accept things when they just don't seem to go how we planned. For me I have decided if I want God to laugh I just need to let him know what I have planned. Remember---there is a plan and it is hand picked JUST FOR YOU---no matter what---we always get our answers, yes, no, or wait. For today, yours is wait---don't leave us---you are ours now---keep us posted.

Thanks so very much!!! I was so tearful when I called the surgeon and cancelled my surgery!! I so want to be thin, but just can't go to that extent! I cried more than a river when I knew in my heart I just could not do the RNY!

I plan to keep in touch with my insurance company and keep saving $ for going to Mexico. It just baffles me that insurance companies wnat you to go through such an invasive procedure when it could be done so much less invasive and less complications and cost? Go figure, why would insurance companies ever be realistic!!

Hey surgery buddy... I applaud you for having the courage to do what's best for you. I don't think you're a wimp at all; I think you're an incredibly strong person. I always tell people to follow their gut because it will rarely lead you astray, and I think you've done just that. Lots of love and prayers to you. <3

I don't think you're a wimp for not going through with RNY. You have done the research,(apparently more research than the insurance company has done) and chosen what was best for you. I hope that soon they will get their heads out of the sand and approve it. Then you can put the money you have been saving toward a new wardrobe or a wonderful trip.

I understand where you are coming from about the RNY. The first surgeon I went to (almost a year ago) really pushed the RNY but I knew that was just too much messing around with my guts. I really think he pushed it because he could get more money for it. I was so lucky to find my doctor--- he had worked in our hometown hospital and had operated on my mother-in-law a few years earlier. He had moved away and I just happened to find him online. I knew then and there that he was the surgeon for me. So, I dropped out of the other guy's program right when the approval came through from insurance. I called and talked to the insurance company and they extended the approval to the new doctor. My surgeon does lap band and sleeve, but does not even do RNY. I trust him implicitly, and he apparently doesn't think too much of the RNY.

Keep in touch with your doctor and your insurance company. Hopefully everything will work out for you. And be sure to keep in touch with your family here as well. We are all pulling for you.
