At this point I measure everything by volume. As time goes on, do you continue to measure by volume or do you start using a food scale?
I used to measure by volume but now I measure by my hand. I have gotten really good at knowing how much by looking at it. Also I take what looks about right and eat and if I get full before its gone I just don't finish it.
I measure almost everything by weight. Only very runny liquids by volume. Even things like salad dressing I measure by weight!
Measuring food is not the reason why I had the surgery. My reason was to get healthy. I don't want to constantly think about nutrition facts and whatnot. I eat what I feel like, but I eat only when I'm hungry. I eat slowly, and stop when I first start feeling that I may be full.
Different things work for different people. It's great that you don't measure, Big Jon, but others do and that's okay too.
Leah - I do the same as Bufflehead. Everything by weight on my trusty kitchen scale unless it is a runny liquid. Perhaps use the nutrition label as your guide. However the serving size is presented, be it tbsp or cups, oz or fluid oz, ml or g, use that so you have an accurate idea of what you're consuming. Also, using a tracker like My Fitness Pal will guide you on the best way to measure, because for ease of use, you want the same units as it reports in. Does this make sense?
I think solid should be measured by weight for one reason . You can chew them ! however liquid cant be chewed so you measure it by volume but ofcourse like Big Jon you dont want to spend your life thinking what should i eat or not to eat . Focus on protein and eat normally like you always do . Dont make your life hard and always remind yourself that you had surgery .
When I was eating liquid or pureed foods, I went by volume. Once I started onto soft foods and real foods, I go by weight (except for my fluid intake)
