I will be 7 weeks on Monday. I eat everything, just in small portions, and I always aim to get the protein in first. Today, I had a protein shake for breakfast (with benefiber and miralax cuz I'm having *that* issue), lunch was pulled pork a 6 tortilla chip and 1 Tbs of guacamole. For dinner, I am grilling steaks and serving green beans on the side. For a snack, I will have 1/2 cup of greek yogurt or cottage cheese mixed with 1/4 cup of fruit (like mandarin orange or pineapple chunks).

At 7 weeks you should be eating a variety of foods, in small amounts. Go for the protein first; then the veggies and fruit. You should not be drinking protein shakes but making sure that you are preparing regular foods. I know that for me if I don't have the proper foods available the protein shake can be used as a back up but you need to learn to make yourself a properly balanced meal. You should be asking your dietician to outline for you what your mealplan should be. How much protein, what would that include, fruits, veggies, how to deal with eating in restaurants, wedding receptions and the like. You are still healing but working on how to develope good eating habits and how to work with your new smaller stomach. It is a process and will not happen overnight. We, who have had our surgery, know that they told us to drink at least 64 oz of fluid each day. Now none of us could get all that down at first but it was a gradual process that comes quicker for some and a bit later for others. You need to work up to that. The same goes for eating. Some of our surgeons have different processes for eating food after surgery. But at some point we all need to eat real food and not pureed or shakes. You have to take time to see what agrees with you and figure out despite your pickiness what works. Believe me, if you drink your 64 oz and don't make food the focus of your day you will be happier and see the pounds just melt away!!!! Good luck on your journey!

This was the best thing I ever did for myself!!!

I am 5 weeks post and I am enjoying canned crab meat. I cooked a chicken breast and chopped in up and added it to french onion soup.. melted fat free cheese and loved it. I understand what you are saying about variety thought, I wandered around a grocery store for an hour because the fish department had closed and I had no idea what to buy. I listed all the low carb items on a cheat sheet and put it in my wallet so now I have a list to pick from. The diet that my doc has me on is so close to Atkins and South Beach that I go online for recipes and it helps alot. GOOD LUCk

I cook my steak to medium to keep it moist and I cut up all my meat in tiny pieces - like pea sized. Then I chew chew chew. It has worked so far. I find tuna to be very dry, which may be why it is so hard to tolerate.

At this point, what would be a portion size that one could handle?

Instead of the miralax try having a serving of beans daily..I take FF refried beans top it with a little salsa and put reduced fat cheese on top and nuke it for 45 sec. I was having the same problems since I added beans I feel much better plus thier full of protien and lots of vit& minerals.
