Default Please tell me this gets easier...

4 days out from surgery and everything is going really well. No nausea, little pain, it's just going far better than I had expected. What's my problem then? I am craving food BIG time. It's driving me crazy!!! I want peanut butter really bad. Pizza sounds awesome. A LOT of things sound delicious and it's truly driving me out of
my mind!!! Will this go away, or at leAst change from a burning desire to just a lingering thought? UGH,!!

My surgery was 1 day after yours. Lol. Weird you say that's what you want. Thats what I've been wanting. But today's my nephew's graduation party and I Went right out of the hospital andThe smell of the food that was there was absolutely repulsive. Weird right? Now I dont want food. Also I loved yogurt before the surgery and now I cant stand it, has your taste changed at all?

I haven't noticed a change in my tastes but I've only had Crystal Light and a chocolate protein drink. So I haven't tried enough to have an answer to that! Today, day 4, is the first day that I craved food. Prior to this, I didn't want anything. Hopefully these extreme cravings are just temporary!

I recommend asking your surgeon about a more potent acid controller. The acid in your tummy really makes you feel like you are starving.

It does get much better. Hang on!

It gets better and once you get to soft/pureed food, you will feel like it is heaven! The cravings do go away and by the time you can eat those things, you will find that you don't really want them anymore or you can only eat a bite or two. Now it is a little more about discipline again but since I can still only eat a little at a time, the weight keeps coming off. It may be hard, especially in the beginning but it is definitely worth it!

I can tell you that your cravings will change. Give that tummy of yours time to heal, please, as you do not want a leak..... Nothing is worth your long term health. However, as you progress and add food, there will be some things you used to love that you will NOT want or crave. I promise. I remember reading that fact before surgery and thinking, "oh please... Drama... Give me a break!" lol! I did. Well, they were being absolutely truthful. I stand amazed that I can't stand fried chicken, can't stand French fries.... I don't crave them, partly because they hurt.... The discomfort makes me avoid and eventually detest certain foods. Much the same as when you get a stomach bug after eating your favorite food..... You don't crave that food for sometimes years after.

It gets better. Every single day it gets better and easier. Blessings for your journey. Listen to your doctor, let yourself heal and everything will fall into place. Promise!

I will say this surgery opens our eyes to our relationship with food. You're probably craving some comfort foods. I went through a period, where I would get sad when I thought about not being able to eat, during those early days. It gets better. I promise. Use this time to examine your relationship with food, and mourn the change. Then accept that your diet must be different to some degree from here on out. Whether its what you eat, or how much. Some are able to eat pretty much anything and still lose, while others have to really count their carbs hard. Good luck to you! You can do this!

    Highest pre-surgery weight= 306lbs
    Weight at last pre-op Dr visit= 304lbs
    Weight day after surgery= 310lbs
    Lowest adult weight= 199lbs
    5/17/14- Passed the 50lb mark
