I was told that I will always be considered a diabetic. My Endocronologist puts it down as diabetes that is controled with diet. I have had two normal
A1c's since having my procedure done and I pray for continued success. I dont know if I am getting in 90 grams of protien a day or not as I do not count them. What I will say is that I ALWAYS eat protien first at any meal. I concentrate on getting my fluids in daily also. Godspeed on your journey.

I am 19 days post op and knew that I would still have diabetes following my surgery. It is better controlled though due to my change in eating habits. I am still currently on my liquid diet for another couple of days then I start my puréed diet for one month. I will be eating mainly puréed meat and fish with vegetables. I also drink protein water which gives me 40g of protein and it's zero sugar! M x

My A1C is normal. My last dose of insulin was the night before surgery - no oral meds either. I'm one of the lucky ones. Everyone's body is different and with us diabetics every pancreas it different too. It's possible that you won't get right of the metformin completely, but celebrate what you have achieved.

I ride my plateaus out. I make sure I'm getting enough protein (right now I'm drinking an isopure RTD for breakfast every day plus the lean meat, cheese and protein for dinner with string cheese as a snack). I also listen to my body. If it wants carbs that's what I give it. If it wants fat, same thing. I think people with a 'diet' mentality tend to stick on stalls longer, but that's only my opinion. There are bunch of things you can do to try and jump start your loss but I'd go with protein and water - those are the two most important things.

How much protein are you getting? If you're under 60 grams, I'd look to see what else you can add. I know it can get boring eating protein so often but unflavored powders can be a godsend. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

I am 2.5 years out from my sleeve surgery and I haven't taken a pill or insulin since the surgery. My A1C hovers at about 6.7 now so I know I still need to be VERY careful.
Its all about the CARBS for Type 2 diabetics. If you restrict them greatly, you most likely will be able to stay off diabetic meds. If you lapse back into CARB heaven, you will again need the meds. There are lots of CARB slider drinks and foods. Stay away from them as much as possible for your best chance at success... Good luck!
