    Default Slowwwwwww start

I had my surgery two weeks ago today. My first post-op visit was two days ago. In two weeks I lost ONE POUND. I was absolutely stunned. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I lost 15# on the pre-op diet (which I include in my tag-line weight statistics just to make me feel better). And true, the weight they recorded at the hospital was with me only wearing a hospital gown and I was fully clothed at the Dr.'s office but, still, ONE FREAKING POUND? They weren't upset but I sure was. Has anyone else started this slow?

How long was your pre-op diet? Maybe because you lost a bit of weight during the pre-op phase that would explain the slowness after??? IDK, but I understand how that would be frustrating. The dr didn't give any advise in that area? I've got to imagine that as long as you're getting in your protein and water that one day you will step on the scale and be stunned by a large drop all of a sudden. Just remember....just because that number isn't moving doesn't mean that your body isn't changing. Hang in there!

Because our bodies are all different we will all get off to different starts. I know at my first post op appointment I weighed exactly the same as my surgery day weight. Surgeon was kinda irritated but there wasn't anything I could do. Stick with it and your loss will be there. Right now hydration first and foremost, then protein, then walking. But overall don't forget the attitude. This is a stage and it will pass. Take your measurements - when we're not losing weight we're almost always losing inches.

Thank you, Laura. I did forget to take measurements but I do know that my jeans are getting looser and looser. And I walk a mile or so every day so I know that that will help kick-start things, too. It's just hearing "1 POUND" that deflated me so much. It reminded me of the (un)successful diets I've been on.

How were your first few days after surgery? I could barely get my meds down nevermind
    food.

    Hi Lisa,
I lost 15# on the pre-op diet and only 3# in the 17 DAYS since the surgery. That scale isn't budgeting. I walk for an hour+ every day, do all my own yard and housework and as soon as I get cleared I will add a regular exercise regime to my activity. The NP was not alarmed by my lack of progress at the 1st pre-op visit (by their records I've lost ONE POUND) but I sure was. How in heaven's name is this possible?

I was the same way. My guess is that you will see a big drop here soon. That seems like it has been like that for me since the beginning. It has been awhile, but I know I lost 15#, then there was about 3 weeks of no movement. I nearly lost it! The whammo, like 15 lbs in a few days! That was a great time! lol. It is hard to be patient, but it will be worth it! Best to you!

Thanks, Melissa. I wonder why our bodies work like that? Well no matter what my body is doing, it better hurry up. I need some visual encouragement from my scale!

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks post up. My total weight loss is exactly what it was two weeks ago: 1-3 pounds. (The variation is depending on who is weighing and what I'm wearing.) That's right, I'm losing NOTHING. In fact, for a few days my weight actually went up.

I called the Dr.'s office yesterday and we went over everything I'm eating and doing and the best they could some up with was my system was slow getting started. (Gee, wasn't that what I've been telling doctor's for years? How come they didn't believe ME when I said it?) I am getting depressed now.

Oh, yes, and I had a few mornings recently where I woke up to horrid reflux. Yesterday it was so bad I lost my voice for a while and almost triggered off a serious asthma attack. The Dr.'s office seems confused by that, too.

I should add that I'm older than the typical patient so maybe that's part of the problem but why wouldn't someone have mentioned that as one of the surgical risks?

I definitely understand how you have been feeling. I was the same way and we had surgery a few days apart. How long were you on your pre-op liquid diet? I was on for 2 weeks and then 2 more weeks of liquids. At some point I remembered reading about the stall at 3 weeks and I remembered tinman saying that we have to try different things to break a stall. Well, I decided to eat some protein instead of just drinking it and I've lost 8 lbs in the last 3 days. I am only over 3 weeks out so I am using ground chicken in mashing it to an applesauce consistency. It worked for me for what it's worth.

I did 10 days protein liquid before the surgery which is where I lost 15#. I was on liquids for another week afterward. Then soft foods and now it's soft foods with bits of well-chewed meat. Right after the surgery I lost another 1-3# (depending on who is measuring)
BUT NOTHING SINCE. To me this isn't a stall, this is a never-started.

I am with you on the SLOW part. Between my preop diet (2 weeks) and now (7 weeks post surgery) I have lost 28 lbs. 10 preop and 18 in 7 weeks. Surgeon said 20 lbs a month in the beginning is typical. I am concerned since they say we lose the most in the beginning and especially in the first 12 months. How can it get slower? I have been stuck at 218 for a couple of weeks. Grr. I feel your pain. Though I like to tell myself that in a year I will be much lighter but based on the first 2 months it isn't going to be much! Lol.

It takes time to lose the fluid they put in your body at hospital especially if you arent getting enough fluid. that will cause your body to hold onto what it has. just be patient, follow instructions and the weight loss will eventually follow.
