Nioxin shampoo and treatment is said to be very good. It's even recommended by my bariatric coordinator. I have not started using it yet to review it but it comes in today. I've seen it at local salons as well. (I just looked and they sell it on Amazon.co.uk) Also, biotin and b-12. I've lost mine before due to hypothyroidism. It's upsetting, I know, especially when we feel our hair is our crowning glory. It does come back, really it does. Mine has gone thin and come back 4 times in 4 yrs during med changes and I expect it after surgery but this time I have the info about Nioxin and b-vitamins from the group here to help.
Oh, and scalp massage 5 min twice a day to get the blood up there. Hang in there, you'll have your locks back looking thicker in a few months!
Best NSV - fitting on a kid's amusement park ride with my 4 yr old grandson!
CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

When you say you'll have them looking thick in a few mos does this mean bc of the treatment and it'll "appear" thick or it will naturally come back or does the treatment make it come back??? Bc I had some grrreat hair and now here I am looking for fake ponytails. please give Amy details u cam so I know what to expect. Mine started about 4 mos post op too

Deedee and Nina---do you think we should start taking these Biotin 500 right away after our surgery (when we start our vitamins) to work as prevention? I am getting down to the wire and want to have everything on hand when I get home so I don't have to stress about anything. Honestly---we are so blessed to have so many people so willing to share their knowledge with all of us. Amazes me every time I get on this forum.

I started biotin, b-complex and b-12 a month ago. I'll stop just the day before surgery and for a few days afterward. I got sub-lingual of both in case I can't swallow. WAnted to get a jump start on it.

As far as it coming back thick, that's from my experience with hypothyroidism. It went very thin, see the scalp kind of thin and then came back not only thicker than before but wavy where it was always thin and limp. It's now done this 4 times to me...it's frustrating but it comes back healthier looking every time. Hair is amazingly hard to kill. Just look at your other body hair, bet sometimes you wish it would just go away
This is one reason I hop on the thyroid soapbox so often. Seems mine was low for years before I knew about it and got proper treatment. And those of us who are hypo and know it have to remember to get our docs to check us every 30 lbs or so for changes in dosage because becoming hyper can cause thin hair as well.

Well I guess the best way to answer that is to put a call out to those who have been sleeved for a year or more and took biotin and b-12.
How about it folks, how's your hair?

Ladies don't panic. All the hair grows back as it used to be. The tips you have been receiving seems to be good ones.
    1. Focus on the protein intake.
    2. Be sure to take your multivitamins
    3. Complex vit. B and the biotin do help.
    4. I recommend also the supplement sold at GNC called "Hair and Nail" (use as directed).

Just to put your mind at ease, I have never ever seen a bald (permanent) bariatric patient. The hair grows back.

    Hope this helps.

    best regards,
    Dr. Alvarez

Thank you dr Alvarez, now I feel much better knowing the hair will grow back and that I won't be skinny and bald headed.

My nutritionist has said its at its worst 3-6 months - I hit 6 months in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping as of the 3rd Sept I'll wake up and it will all be back!! haha!!
I take 5000mg biotin, 200mg silica and have just bought Nioxin4 (only used it a couple of times and my hair defiantly looks thicker) I've also started snaking on peanuts, edameme beans. It defiantly feels like I'm not loosing as much - but getting my hair cut shorter this week as I've been told shorter hair looks thicker
