Default One step closer, but worried..

So I had my ultrasound done yesterday, that went well, that's out of the way now so I'm closer to getting the surgery. But I went to my first support group, all of the people telling their stories had gotten gastric bypass and this woman said "I was 350 and the surgeon told me I HAD to get bypass" I'm going to be 360 when I get the surgery and I truly don't want bypass, I don't believe it's for me and my mom doesn't agree with the bypass either. Now I'm super scared they're going to make me get the bypass.

Hopefully now I'll be able to get it in May and in August a few of my friends from other states are coming here for my graduation party and I'm hoping to be in a super cute dress by then!! Getting excited now
I had my sleeve at 19 and would do it all over again

If your surgeon feels the sleeve will work, have faith in him. My start weight was 367 and all of my doctors thought the bypass would be too hard on my body (I have a lot of health problems) so they all told me the sleeve would be less invasive but would work just as well. I do know that with this high of a starting weight I will eventually have to get a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin but i'm okay with that because it will mean that my surgery has done what it was supposed to do. Good luck to you!

I was 355 when I first went to see my surgeon and he told me flat out he didn't want me to have the bypass. And now I couldn't be happier. If it's a concern don't sit on the anxiety but call and ask.

It is your body and your choice. Is your surgeon have a clinic that is a Biatric Center of Excellence? They are getting paid very well to do a service. It is your right to get a 2nd opinion. Bypass makes it much harder to get the nutrition you need, they take out a portion of your intestine that not only absorbed calories, but also absorbed nutrition. I am not saying your surgeon is wrong, but you have a right for a 2nd opinion.

Take a deep breath, this is your choice above all else and you need to keep that in mind, they're working for YOU after all! There might have been reasons that he pushed her in that direction that don't pertain to you so don't sweat this. If you don't want the bypass just explain that to him/her and be adamant about it, ask him what his reasoning is to push you in that direction if that's what happens. They want you to be happy with your choice and with their services so I think they'll be more receptive to your wishes than you might think! Keep going and things will work out just as they're suppose to!! Good luck!

I would flat out tell them YOU are the patient and YOU have the final say on what surgery you are willing to get. The doctor might suggest but if he does a surgery on you that you expressly tell him you do not want he will be in deep deep trouble and I doubt they want to do that. My surgeon told me that i had the choice between band sleeve and bypass he felt the bypass might be better for me but I didnt and in the end he has called me a success. If your dr is worth anything they will know that you are the patient and you have the control over your health care. personally I am so glad i didnt have bypass because a friend of mine did on the same day as my sleeve (same dr) and she has had nothing but problems from ulcers to dehydration to all kinds of other stuff. I wish you all the best but remember YOU are the patient and YOU have final say
