Hair Loss!! Gonna be skinny...but bald??? : (

Okay...So I know all of the paperwork I signed before the surgery said that Hair Loss was a possible side effect - BUT, I just didn't think it would really happen to me. It started a couple weeks ago...I saw my surgeon last week & he said that the Hair Loss peaks from about 4 to 6 months out from surgery - Well I am 4 months out today...So I have to go through this for another 2 months!!...Just hoping I'm not bald by then!!....Any advice?? - Anyone else experiencing this?? - - I know I need increase my Protein intake, I'm already doubling up on multi-vitamins and also taking iron pills....Any other suggestions????

Take Biotin. It is a B-complex vitamin that helps you hair and nails grow faster. And, jgilliam 1955 is right, it will grow back.

BTW jgilliam1955, have you found that big stick yet?

I am not experiencing this from the sleve (yet), but I have dealt with it from thyroid issues. I take Biotin capsules and they really help.

Yikes....I already have thin straight hair....guess I'm looking forward to a short hair cut huh? So it's the protein that helps right? I would rather forfeit the weight loss to make sure I have plenty of protein....the weight loss can come later ....yikes....scary!!!

I took Biotin before surgery but they made me get off....Im three weeks in....is it okay to take it again?

Nioxin. A friend used their products after her surgery and still has her long luxurious hair!

@ Busybee...Biotin is the same as Nioxin according to my stylist...just much cheaper!

Taking omega fatty acids help too. I take GNC's Omega 3,6,9. Although, I think you only need the 3 and not so much the 6 and 9. But I heard you shouldn't start these until 6 weeks out from surgery.

oh wow...I have been taking them for several months due to thyroid, but I have heard we should start taking them now to get it built up in our systems before surgery. Does anyone know for sure?

The oil may break down the newly stapled stomach line. Not sure. But I stopped taking them after surgery until I was 6 weeks out just to be safe. That's still plenty of time to build up until you get to the 4-6mth mark.

@ becca I have been losing hair for about a year from thyroid issues also I don't know what I will do after surgery. I have looked into extensions to give the appearance of fuller hair although they cannot do extensions in the front I can do a comb over. I will be purchasing biotin I cannot take right now my surgeon told me to stop everything surgery is in 7 days. I really don't want to lose more hair then I already have.

The biotin REALLY does help, also Nioxin has several shampoos and other treatments for thinning hair. My sister swears by their scalp treatments for promoting new hair growth.

What has your diet been like since surgery? Do you get as much protein as advised on a daily basis? Please advise! This is scary!

i'm 2-1/2 months out and think my hair is getting thinner too, i'm taking biotin but not everyday. urg!
