Default A very STUPID question but I just need to know!

I know to most this will be a total no brainer but - I can crush my medications that I am on. Now the stupid question is what is the best way to do that? I did it for my daughter when she had her gall bladder out with a meat mallet and a zip lock bag. There's gotta be an easier way - No?
    End of Stupid Question.

I had to crush my pills too. I got a "pill cursher" at Walmart for just under $4. You put it in the cylinder and turn it and it curshes it for you. I tried just using the flat side of a knife at first, but that was too hard AND I lost alot of my pills that way (rickochets and inthe floor). lol I also opened my capsules and put then in with the crushed meds..

I would put my pills in a zip lock bag, then crush them with a hammer. Then I would mix the powder with a tiny sip of water. Tasted gross but better then swallowing them before you are allowed too. good luck!

NOT a stupid question..I was told if the name of the pill has an EX or LE... for extended release it can not be crushed, will not work the same in the body. I would ask the pharmacy

I never thought I could swallow pills right after surgery (especially since I was never good at it before). But one time of trying to drink crushed pills (SO GROSS!!!) and I decided to try. I split the pill(s) in half and placed it near the back of my tongue and took a small sip to wash it down. No problem and much better than the taste of crushed pills.

Do you HAVE to crush them??? My surgeon allowed me to take standard sized pills/capsules at discharge from the hospital.

If you have been instructed to crush them, then invest in a pill crusher. You will find them over in the pharmacy area. But I never had a patient who enjoyed the taste of them crushed (even mixed in applesauce or pudding.) If you are allowed to take them whole, that is the best.

I could take my meds right from day 1 but I have always been good at taking tablets, ask your Doctor or Chemist for advice, goodluck or if needed a pill crusher works well

Walmart sells a pill crusher. It is not too expensive and is located where they have pill dispensers and pill cutters.

I too was able to swallow pills immediately after surgery...maybe you won't need to crush them.

Yeah get the crusher from Walmart or any pharmacy it is easy to use and quick.
I crush mine as that is what I was told to do for the first 6 weeks but one of mine is nasty and 3x a day may think about cutting it into smaller pieces but not crushed.

Medications in capsules are not to be opened and mixed into other meds or food, BECAUSE they are in a protective capsule for a reason and are meant to dissolve at a certain point in the digestive tract...not in the mouth or esophagus and often not in the stomach...unlike tablets which can be crushed. I am an RN...please consult with your doctor who ordered them before emptying a capsule out and either dissolving in liquid or mixing in food.

I bought a pill crusher from Walmart, then dumped the powder in a small glass of water and mixed it with one of those flavored water packets. Chug it down and there's no bitterness. All of this after checking with my doctor that the pills could be crushed.
