Default What are you eating and are you weighing your food?

Hi-I had surgery 7 weeks ago and I don't know what to eat! Nothing sounds or tastes good. I've been cleared to eat anything, but I go to eat a scrambled egg and after 2-3 bites, yuck..just don't want it. Same with tuna salad or pretty much anything else I try to eat. Can't stomach protein shakes, first sip and I want to barf!Is this how it is for anyone else out there? Sure, I'm losing weight, I don't eat anything but a bite here or a bite there. Any suggestions? I'm not weighing any food cuz right now it's just a bite or two. Is this just because it's still new? I had a craving for pizza the other day so we ordered one. I had 2 bites and I was done....never thought I'd see the day! lol....but I'm not complaining!

I ate yogurt, skinny cow fudge pops, egg drop soup, pintos and cheese (taco bell), and broccoli and cheese soup. It takes a while to figure out what works for you. I still dont eat bread or rice that often!! Just dont feel good in there It takes time!

Things will get easier. We have all had the same issue at one time or another. I had my surgery 6 months ago and there are days when I want to eat and days that I dont. Just take it one day at a time. Just get your vitamins and fluid in if you dont do anything else. Good luck.

I ate like a toddler I found a food I liked and liked me, and stuck with that. As a matter of fact, I still stick with that. It's all trial and error. I actually still am not crazy about most foods. Continued success!!

Eggs and tuna both have a smell to them and maybe that is causing you to have an adverse reaction. Why not try Greek yogurt or something kind of benign. There is a frozen greek yogurt that Healthy Choice makes that might be palatable. Whenever I feel sick or my children are sick, I use the BRAT diet - Bananas, Applesauce, Rice and Toast. The rice and toast may be tough for you right now, but try a little mashed banana or sugar free applesauce.

Greek yoghurt, multigrain crackers with slice of cheese and a slice of turkey deli meat, Special K-Protein cereal, sugar free pudding , protein bars , hate protein drinks but still try to drink them for extra protein, I mix 1/2 cup skim milk with a big scoop of protein powder and try to drink it fast, yes I do feel like it will come back but only for a few minutes, cottage cheese, that's about it don't really feel like eating although I feel hungry.

I weigh and measure everything. Lived off egg drop soup and added unflavored protein powder to it in the beginning. My beloved greek yogurt and tuna no longer like me. Coffee, oatmeal and peanut butter either. It is trial and error in finding stuff that agrees with you. Cottage cheese and peaches and string cheese were a staple at 4-6 weeks. You will find your groove:-)

i put fresh salsa on my scrambled egg and it's delicious, i also like light and fit greek yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese, chicken, and yes I do weigh my protein to make sure I'm only eating about 2oz of it...no more than 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day...only 1 low carb slim fast shake in the morning and I'm hitting my protein goals and getting about 650 calories a day!! i can't tolerate mayo anymore!! I love beans too!! I cook for my family, and if it's not something I want or can tolerate I just make myself something different. This week I 'm trying a few different things like immitation crab, smoked salmon....

First, make sure you are taking some sort of PPI (Prilosec, etc.) You might be suffering from too much acid in your stomach. Also, make sure you are eating/drinking slowly and chewing thoroughly.

Here are some of my faves:

Quest bars -- they have many, many flavors.
    Yogurt
Oatmeal or Cream of Wheat -- you can add unflavored protein powder to it to get the carb & protein balance better
Non-fat, sugar free pudding -- get the sugar free mix and use nonfat milk when making it
Chicken breast -- small pieces chewed well
Pork chop or roast -- small pieces chewed well
    Light string cheese
PB2 & light preserves on Sara Lee 45 calorie bread
    Refried beans with some cheese

Weight on day of surgery: 318.4 lbs

I live on eggs, soft chicken, other soft proteins (shredded/ground beef, turkey, pork), fish (sashimi sushi, haddock, shrimp). I eat some beans. I also eat Greek yogurt and LF cheese. Can't wait until I can have salads again. My main diet is mostly the above proteins that I mentioned. I am trying to work more veggies in. I do eat a small amount of fruit everyday.

I don't currently weigh my food. I do use a small plate though and eyeball it. I eat until I feel "restriction" and then I stop. I usually can eat about 1/2c or a little more of food at a time, given that the food is quite moist. The more dense it is, the less I can eat.

I'm at 8 weeks today and still have that problem. I feel like I just nibble here and there. Sometimes something tastes good and the next bite is awful! It's getting better though. Just hang in there. You will find what works for you.

I am able to eat anything I want, however I have found that red meats, starches, and such dont sit very well so I try and steer clear of them. Recently I discovered Rice Paper Wraps and I been making them with things that I like.. and creating and experimenting with different things. they are Gluten Free, very light, good texture, 7 grams of fat, and between 40-80 calories each depending what you put in them. They are convenient, easy to make, and they can be frozen and either consumed at room temperature, nuked, or baked. What I love about them most is that the flavor limits are endless, and I dont put any sauce in them, I put it on the side for dipping so that I can experiment with what I am in the mood for whichout wasting a batch of wraps. If you are a Pinterest person, search Rice Paper Wraps and the lists are endless and they are a breeze to make.

Hummus is my go to food. I do weigh my food, I weigh it out in 2 oz. I eat 4 to 5 2 oz meals a day. I can't stomach protein shakes either so I am getting my protein from food. I have yogurt, chicken salad made with light mayo, hummus with sliced veggies, and I usually drink a green smoothie in the mornings made with spinach and kale and fruit and I will sometimes add a scoop of non flavored protein powder.
