Default About to have a sleeve

Hello, I am 29 and I finally have a surgery date of 1/30/2014! I have been waiting for this since last january basically, but because we moved across country basically I had to start over. My high weight is 285, current weight is 276, goal weight is 180 to 200. My wife had RNY in Dec 2012, and was at her Dr's goal weight within the first year! I plan to do the same. I haven't told any friends, and she has only told one of her friends since we moved. We plan to keep it that way, then we can avoid some of the easy way out comments. It's the lifestyle change I need to succeed. I am super pumped, not very nervous, and can't wait. Dr has me on their preop liquid diet which is OPTIFAST which I think is dumb, I can't just do my own thing, and they want to charge me $200. Small price to pay though for a healthy future. Looking forward to the knowledge that is amongst these boards!
Been sitting at my personal goal for a year now.

I was originally given a date of January 23rd, but that would have me on the pre op diet now and I did not want to have to drink my birthday dinner as my birthday is tomorrow, so I opted to drink my Valentine's chocolates instead.

I know but my family takes me out for a nice birthday dinner every year and I figured I would let them take me out one last time before I can't eat like them anymore. I only have one family member who is not totally supportive of my decision to get sleeved and that is my uncle who has turned into a fitness junkie and lives in the gym and watches everything he puts in his mouth and is back to his high school weight at 48 years old. He tells me you can do it without surgery if you really wanted to, you just have to put your mind to it. But I don't want to be like him, having to worry about counting calories and working out for hours everyday. I just want to be healthy again. The reason I have set my goal at 180lbs, is that is last time I enjoyed life, pain free, medicine free!

Welcome and congrats on your date. This is by far the best thing I've ever done for myself. It's taken me out of my comfort zone in SO many ways I'm actually excited to try new things. It hasn't changed who I am, it's just allowed me to be a better me without all the medical complications getting in the way. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted.

Have fun on your dinner. All my family is supportive, most have had surgery. Wife had RNY in Dec 2012, Mom had RNY in April 2013, and my dad had RNY revision in NOV 2013. I choose who I tell. Not everyone needs to know. I'm in the same boat though, and I know IF I didn't do this and spent the hours in the gym, and watched my diet, I could do it, BUT it takes one mess up, and its so hard to recover from it then.

XIMMIA - I am looking forward to not having medical complications, I don't really have many now. The biggest one being sleep apnea, and if it helps that even a little I will be happy. My family has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and some other problems though. I see the change in my wife, and I used to be 180lbs all through high school. Then college and marriage, OH and my family opened up an Ice cream shop, with food too, and I worked there for 9 years. So thats where 100lbs came from very quickly too.
