The surgery time is between 45 minutes and 2 hours. It will take longer if they find any issues with your spleen, etc.

Not sure what you mean by normal foods. Typically, you go to "soft foods" eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, pureed meats within a few weeks of surgery and are gradually reintroduced to harder foods on a time-schedule. Each doctor has their own schedule. It will probably take about 3 months for you to be able to eat something without having to "think" about it.

I am 3 weeks post surgery today....My surgery was I think 1 and a half hour...I had no trouble. I warned the anesthesiologist before hand that anesthia makes me sick, so they put something in there to help with that...apparently it worked, because I wasn't sick at all..

I agree every doctor seems to be a little different on the eating plan...I was on clear liquids for the first 3 days, then started back the shakes, I think day 5 I started pureed foods....I ate mostly fat free refried beans with cheese in them....they are still my friend!..Anyway, now I can eat lots of foods..I even but the weight watcher or healthy choice meals (look for the ones with lots of protein)...Depending on the meal, it takes me two meals to finish it...but they are quick and easy...I like that!!

I wish you good luck!!...Congratulations on your decision for a new healthy you!!

My surgery took almost 5 hours because the surgeon discovered a need for a hernia repair. They will take care of you no matter what happens. Best of luck!

Yeah, don't worry. The flavor will wear on you after awhile, but you won't be hungry after the surgery for a bit. the liquid part won't be so bad.

My surgery took a hour...I was able to start puree food after a week
    Then solid after 2weeks
I guess it depends on the doctor and how you are feeling
Some ppl take longer to start even the puree. I'm able to eat 3tsp...good luck on your surgery and don't be scared PLEASE keep us posted thanks!!!!

I was out for about 2 hours, I think. They also did a hernia repair on me. As far as "normal foods". I was eating mostly normally after 2 months, now, at 3, I feel completely normal. I haven't found anything yet that doesn't agree, including bread, pasta etc., though I try to focus on protein. The only issue I ever have is when I eat too fast. Once or twice I've had stuff get stuck and some of it (not all) come back on me. Still learning to live with my new tool.

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

My surgery time was 1 hour and 20 minutes. My post op diet was two days of clear liquids, two weeks of full liquids, two weeks of purred foods, two weeks of soft foods and then slowly, SLOWLY adding back in most regular foods. I still do not eat, popcorn, fresh green salads or spinach, granola or pasta. I am about 12 weeks out.
