Default Could I not be eating enough to go to the bathroom? TMI

Surgery was 2 weeks ago, I had a BM last Sat and I felt constipated! so I used fleet. I just went again today and I have not felt constipated at all. I'm eating about 700-850 a day and I'm working on increasing my water to 64oz. I'm up to 46oz. and I know that' s not enough.

Anyho, could I just not have a lot in my system to go every other day but once a week? (btw, totally weird for me since I used to be regular).

Pain meds will constipate you, that is a side effect of them. On the liquid diet we don't really get enough bulk to form a solid stool (sorry this is my nursing side coming out), so even if you do go, chances are it may be loose. But I wouldn't stress. Just get in enough water and if you don't feel bloated or have cramps I wouldn't worry too much.

After my surgery, it was 27 days before I went to the bathroom. I almost ended up in the hospital. It was quite possibly the worst pain ever. As Jackie said pain meds will constipate you but also the high protein diet we are put on will do it too. Ask your doctor if you can take Miralax. This has been a life saver for me. I use it every morning in my coffee and I go EVERY day, usually 3x

I used to go once a day prior to surgery and now it's about 1-2 times per week. I stressed at first but now I know that I'm not uncomfortable or bloated, and when I do go it's not hard or constipated. I guess I'm just not eating enough. It's OK to not go every day, try and not stress, but also pay attention if your body tells you it's been too long.

Believe me Im happy to go once a week. I have had a lot of problems with pooping. I take Papaya enzyme tablets every day. Also take Acidophilus and Bifidum 3 times a day. They are both chewable and work. And then started drinking coffee in the morning every day.
I was taking MOM all the time and it was horrible because I had really hard stool. Boy did that hurt. Since I've been taking the above no problems any more. We are all different and you will find what's best. And remember DRINK DRINK DRINK.
IT'S BEEN ALMOST TEN YEARS NOW SINCE MY SURGERY. AND IM STILL GOING STRONG!!!!!!

This has been the worst problem for me. At first it was awful. I went over a week with nothing. When I went it was hard as a rock. I was literally in tears. Miralax and MOM didn't even work. This is still an issue for me. Hard and very painful. My husband has started juicing for me so I can get healthy natural juice with fiber. That seemed to help yesterday. We'll see how today goes.
    Good luck!

You guys were so right. I upped the fluids after rearranging food times and it has helped me go. I'm going to buy the papaya enzymes, I've taken them before and I had completely forgotten all about them. I love juicing but I'm afraid to start that just yet since my food intake is still in the figuring out phase.

Glad you had some results, and yes, I routinely go about every 5 days.

Milk of magnesia on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Works for me. Need to do it at least once a week.

I did get constipated enough to need the ER once, but I go every other day or so now. Just keep an eye out and see. if things get uncomfortable... take something for it.
