Default Full Liquid - protien shakes are making me gag

I still have 3 more days of full liquids, but I can' t stomach the taste of my shakes anymore. I've tried putting unflavored in soups but the texture makes me gag. At this point I could care less if I ever eat anything again. I'm drinking lots of water because I'm super thirsty all the time. Any suggestions to get me through???

It may be too late now but this is what helped me. Sunkist (yes like the OJ) makes concentrated protein shots. They are as tasty as possible (believe me there are a whole host of ick out there), they are completely liquefied and they are 2.5 ounces with 25 grams of protein. You can even get the bigger bottle (which is still small) that allows more protein but I have found the smaller ones just taste better. They are sugar free and only 100 calories. I just couldn't do the protein drinks. I got horrifically sick in the beginning and have never been able to look back since!! I hope this helps.

Thank you, I am in Canada, and I usually find anything that is "good" we can't get here.

You' be surprised. You can go online and order them. Google Sunkist Protein Shots. There are a lot of flavors that aren't chalky and go down quick. It was one of my biggest battles in getting through the beginning of the weight loss surgery so if you are able to find them you will be thanking me, I promise. I think there is a shop called Protica (sp?) online that has them. They were recommended by my surgeons nutritionist and a total life saver. I was miserable in the beginning just to be real.

I'm moving to puréed foods tomorrow and am feeling similar about the protein shakes. I've been putting different extracts into them, like raspberry with chocolate, or oeppermint. It helps

    Hi Adair,
Do you like cream soups? Are you allowed them. If so, try pureeing tofu into them. It can be pureed to a nothing type of texture, but it's a protein. May work.

If you like milk....just drinking a cup of that will get you 8-12 grams of protein. I do lactose free. Does full liquids allow you Greek yogurt? If so, try to see if you can get the Dannon Light & Fit. The vanilla won't have any chunks of fruit in it and will give you 12 grams of protein, too. I know this stage is hard.

I really couldn't/can't stand the shakes anymore either. I drank skim milk, made creamed soup (campbell's condensed potato, chicken, mushroom) with skim milk, strained out the chunks, and ate greek yogurt, even though the sugar content was high, I was only eating about a third of the little container at a time so it was only about 6 g sugar each time, besides, calories are soooo low in the beginning, it's not a big deal. By 14 days, I also put some split pea soup in the blender, lots of protein in that, and some not sweet taste, heaven! When I saw my surgeon and nut, they were fine with it all, said they didn't really expect anyone to be getting all the protein and liquids in at this point, just do the best you can. At 16 days I was given the ok for eggs, cottage cheese and "soft" meat, the pre packaged thin sliced chicken lunchmeat is really soft and goes down great, so does the cottage cheese. One of these days, I'll start doing a protein shake for breakfast again, but right now, the thought still turns my stomach (it's the artificial sweetner, gag!). Good luck, it gets better every day!

Girl, you know I know this! You will get through it - I'm able to eat more foods now (not early in the day though). We will be comfortable one day... haha.
I still have a hard time with protein shakes but I drink them from time to time because I know I have alternatives. Those sunkist shots sound good - I've never heard of them!

Isopure dutch chocolate is a really tasty protein powder. I mix mine w/ 1% milk and it has a thin texture like chocolate milk and isn't as sweet as some of the others. It's the only brand I like and I tried several. Kroger's carbmaster yogurt is also really good. Most flavors have 8 grams protein and are low in carbs, sugar and fat. Later on when you are able to have them, the protein chips by Health Wise are also good. One small bag has 10 grams protein. They are nice when I need something w/ crunch. Just throwing out some favorites I've come across so far.

Try. It ting them with water or milk so they aren't so heavy or thick I put mine in a large glass full to the top with ice and I pour it over that and drink it over a few hours and some days I even put milk in it so it's not so heavy or thick, good luck ! Hugs!
