Default Liquids start tomorrow and I am FREAKING OUT!!!

Tomorrow marks my 10 day countdown. I am on my pre-op diet tomorrow. For the passed, I don't know how long, I have been drinking two protein shakes a day and then dinner. Sometimes it is a balanced meal, sometimes it is not. I am not too hard on myself with dinner because that has been my only meal of the day. Starting tomorrow, I am on all liquids. I am so worried that 10 days isn't long enough to get my liver pretty. I am so worried that the Dr. will stitch me up and say that I failed him like I have failed every other attempt to lose weight. I am worried. I do not know if I will have enough options to eat (drink) and will sabotage all my work. Pointers... I need pointers... and I need them now. I am really , really worrying myself here. Is 10 days really all I need? I have seen some as long as a month and some as few as 2-3 days. What in the world. C'mon people, I need you to tell me what to do.

Each surgeon has their own guidelines. I'm following my doctor's guidelines.

Im start Saturday for my pre-op. My doctor also has me doing a 10 day diet. 3 protein shakes daily for 8 days and then clear liquids only last 2 days. Sugar-free popsicles, broth are also ok to fill in the blanks. My husband is allowed 2 low fat plain yogurts a day but he hates yogurt so that's out. I understand what you are going through. Im feeling the anxiety of this whole process more now then ever before. These are the last steps until we have surgery. This is when it becomes very real. Im here for you if you need to vent etc! I told my husband that we would live by these words for the next 10 days as he is in the same boat preparing for surgery! 1472026_686990488001391_952398384_n.jpg

when I was preop and got hungry, I took a bath. High water bill, but it was the distraction I needed.

I will be honest with you, the first two or three days are the hardest, then it is a piece of cake. Try lots of different protein shakes so you have variety. Some doctors allow cream soups (stained), definitely stock up on those. It feels like a real meal. Remember you can drink all the water you want. If you get the urge to eat between your meals, drink. Oh and not just regular water, get some crystal light or propel to add to your water. Don't forget jello.

The last thing is to remember, you can do this... you are worth the work it will take to be successful.

Yep, I start tomorrow but have been practicing this week. My plan is to chew lots of gum, drink every variety of flavored water that's allowed and most important: stay busy.

I have to do this for three weeks and am trying to figure out how I'm going to handle Thanksgiving week. Should I avoid the festivities altogether or am I strong enough to ignore the food but enjoy the family?

Sometimes you can't avoid -- so come prepared. Try to stay far away from the food, though. Let visiting with the family be another distraction -- hopefully they are supportive and know what is going on. Make sure you have your shake handy while everyone is eating.

If you are very hungry, talk to your doctor, they probably will tell you to add an extra shake or two each day to help you through this time. Stay strong, and know that you can do anything for a few weeks -- seriously, just keep reminding yourself this is just for a few weeks. To me, the liquid diet was the hardest part of this whole process. I'm now a month post-op, and things are so much better now.

my surgeon only requires a 7 day liquid diet pre op. Im concerned myself especially with the possibility of my surgery being close to Christmas and all. I have my final surgeon apt on 12-5-13 so after that I should hear something. As long as I have it by the end of the yr for insurance purposes since ive met my deductible and out of pocket for the yr. That's my only priority

My surgeon required a 5 day clear liquid diet. I lost like 8 pounds in those 5 days and he said my liver looked perfect. Don't worry about failing, you will get there and be on the sleeved side soon.
