Price question for trips to mexico

Greetings,

I recently had a discussion with someone about to go to Mexico for a sleeve. Until now, I was under the impression that the cost is generally between 4-6K, depending on the doctor in question and what services they provide as part of the "package". However, she told me that this is just a base price and that several factors can increase it significantly. She went on to say that she's paying over 16K for her surgery in Mexico.

Does this sound off to anyone? I am worried now because where I live in Canada there is a 5 -7 YEAR wait for surgery, so Mexico is going to be my best bet since I am diabetic with health issues that will get much worse while waiting. However, 16K? It may take me 5 - 7 years to come up with that! HAHA

Hi Chris, I had my sleeve 1 month ago and the price they quoted me at the Jerusalem hospital with Dr. Almanza was the price the surgery was. They asked me if I wanted to remove my gallbladder for an extra cost because some people have problems with it related to rapid weight loss. I said no. I am from Ontario and OHIP will cover us for anything when we get home. There is an extra cost for your traveling companion for the pick up at at the airport and they have to pay for there stay at the hotel, but I was never asked for more money. I did buy extra antibiotics before I left. Hope this helps , Shirley

Mines in Mexico was approx. 5,000 grand without financing added on another 1,000. I had to bring half when I went. So I had a cashier's check for 3,000 when I went to get my surgery. But to each is own. Hope this helps with number wise. But also I went to a different doctor as well. :-)

Well I went to dr Almanza and i paid around 4500 and the trip of course is separate and some vitaminins if you want to buy it there the b12 which i did but havent spent more than 5000 for my operation everything included so be careful

I too am from Canada and had surgery in Mexico in July with Dr Ortiz thru A Lighter Me. The price I was quoted by the coordinator was the price I paid for Surgery, hospital, hotel and transportation to and from San Diego and around Tijuana. Hi Chris, I am from Saskatchewan and am going to Dr. Elias Ortiz through A Lighter Me. My cost is $4200. I know there will be no other charges, because my sister went in May through the same company and I travelled with her as her companion and she did not have to pay any more than that. I can not even imagine what this person is paying $16 K for in Mexico. Do your research!

My b/f and I had surgery Oct 2 with Dr.Almanza and we paid $4400 each. Extra was the antibiotics and B-12shots but that was our choice. A friend from high school went with Weight Loss Forever and paid $13,000 in Mexico. Her surgeon went to medical school with Dr. Almanza so not sure why the massive cost difference.

I had surgery with hospital jerusalem 8 weeks ago. The price was 4749 and included everything except travel to and from San Diego. I chose to bring a friend for support, so I chose to pay for a private room at$59/night which was reasonable. They offered for sale a few additional items: vitamins, extra round of antibiotics, sleep meds etc. these items were optional and they were not pushy when I said " no thank you". The bottled water offered for sale is a burn because you will never go through a case while you are there. There is also a store right across from hotel Ticuan to get your water. So far, it might be the best $5000 I've ever spent in my life. Good luck with your decision!

I can agree with a majority of the posts, I too went to Tj Mexico, paid just under 5,000 total including my airfare, hotel, surgery, hospital stay, blood work, etc...all inclusive, just like the trips I've taken to Mexico for pleasure at resorts! Once you decide which surgeon is best for you, get a firm price in writing , then get receipts for payments that you make.

We got free Popsicles/freezies and all the juice we wanted at the hospital (except the first 24 hours after surgery as you can't have anything). The same at the hotel with unlimited chicken broth as well.

Not even close as you can see from the other replies. I flew from Phx to San Diego and I paid 4500 in June 2012. I paid a 500 deposit then I think I paid the rest a week before I went. I didn't get charged for pickup or back by the medical van either. I went a nite early at their request so I could be there at 8 for surgery since I was the smallest one of the day so they paid for my hotel the first nite at the Hotel Ticuan, I stayed at the recovery hotel the nite of surgery then I paid for my own hotel room again the next day.

Yes mine was around $5,000.00. That included 2 nights in hospital, all my meds, a night in a hotel with broth, popsicles...
I'm from Calgary, Canada. I wasn't willing to do the long wait either and even then you have to qualify for a sleeve. They are way more open to banding, which from what I've read, doesn't get the same results. I think if you pay any more than $4-5K you are paying too much. (obviously there are still flights).

There are many different types of surgery. If your friend is booked into Cozmed for example then the price could be that much if she is having breast augmentation and tummy tuck. That would be around 9000.00 and then another 1000.00 for the operating room fees. They charge 200.00 per day for the hotel if you bring a companion and the stay is 10 days. The hotel alone would be 2000.00. Anesthetic is an additional thousand. Adds up quickly.

If you are only looking at the gastric sleeve you should no be paying more than 4200.00 right now. The only other cost would be your companion pays 55 per night at the hotel, cost of his/her food and any additional meds you might want to buy. Be aware if you are going to ADR. Almanza at Jerusalem Hospital that most meds are given free to you on your last night there. You might want to buy scar cream at 20.00 and B12 (not sure of that price). Also make sure you spring the 20 or 30 bucks for the fast pass to get through the Tijuana border going home. You will get through in under 30 minutes guaranteed but without it the ride is minimum 3 hours.
